Victorian Premiers’

Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Footscray West Primary is excited to be participating. A new application is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding  students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all students from Prep to Year 6. It is not a competition; it’s a personal challenge for students to read a set number of books from February to 1 September 2020.

There are rules you need to follow to meeting the Challenge. If you are a student in Prep to Year 6 you need to:

  • let your teacher know you wish to register for the challenge this year
  • read the following number of books during the Challenge
    • Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers (at least 20 from the official booklist).
    • Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books (at least 10 from the official booklist).
  • keep a record of  your reading. You will be given a username and password for the challenge website when you return to school and you can then enter your books on the website.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
