DISS - DOCTORS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Doctors in Secondary Schools is an outstanding initiative that has been running successfully in our school for the past 18 months.

At the beginning of each year it is important that we provide new families with information on the DISS program; how it runs, frequently asked questions and operational policies. Information in regards to this are attached for your benefit.

This initiative involves a GP and a Nurse attending our school for half a day each week to provide medical advice and health care to those students most in need. Maffra Secondary College is aligned with Maffra Medical Group where an adolescent-health trained Doctor – either Dr Stuart Anderson or Dr Eliki and Nurse Leanne Stables are available for students to see via appointments, on Mondays between 9:30am – 12:30pm.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Make primary health care more accessible to students
  • Provide assistance to young people to identify and address any health problems early
  • Reduce the pressure on working parents.

All students enrolled in our school are able to access the Doctors in Secondary Schools program. Appointments are only available on Monday between 9 am – 12:30 pm and must be made via Compass.  Please note that no out of pocket expenses will be incurred for student consultations with the GP.

The DISS program is supported by Maffra Secondary College’s Well-being team and the addition of Renae Wallis a Mental Health Clinician who has recently started at our College on a Thursday. Appointments can be made through our Well-being office and or alternatively you can contact the Flying Doctors Well-being team directly on 03 8412 0480.  Please see the Well-being Team page for more information on Renea.

If you have any questions in regards to the DISS program and or the Mental Health Clinician please do not hesitate to contact Cheryl Evans – Assistant Principal at the school on 51 471 790 during business hours.

On behalf of the Team we hope that you have restful holiday…Stay well.
