From the Principal

We are all Making Fantastic Progress

After a couple of weeks of intense learning by all teachers and parents we now seem to be operating in a very positive environment. Yes, of course, there are still some minor hiccups, but when you consider the current nature of everything that is happening in our lives, everyone in our community is working hard to get through this situation.

I have been really impressed with the feedback I have received back from parents commenting on the lift in independence of their child/children. This is one of the real positives out of this entire disaster.

I would like to thank the many parents/carers who have sent us such encouraging messages or sent us tokens of appreciation- you have really made us feel rewarded for all the hard work that has gone into setting up and continually developing and expanding our new style of learning.

Attendance- Roll marking

It is a directive of the Education Department that we accurately mark daily attendance rolls even during this period of remote learning.

Teachers will be sending out greetings each day and these MUST be responded to before 11 am to verify the student’s participation that day.

Response to these messages will result in your child being marked as present.

If your child is ill and won’t be doing any work, you will need to inform your teacher of this also or enter it on Compass yourself.

  • Prep - 4 teachers will be sending out messages via DoJo. Please acknowledge this message by clicking the heart icon or commenting.
  • Grade 5/6 teachers will be asking a daily question on Google classroom. Students are to respond to this question to be marked as present.

Simply submitting work before 11am is not being used as a form of attendance, only the methods above.

Should any child be learning on site they will be marked by the supervising teacher.

Absences of three or more consecutive days will result in a phone call from the office, as we do during regular schooling periods.

Parent survey

This certainly is an interesting time and we have all made the best start possible in the circumstances. We are interested to find out a bit more about the work your child is doing and their wellbeing. The survey is anonymous and is purely a pulse check of the situation at present. We will be facilitating this survey again in a few weeks time. Thank you.

Access the survey here or scan the QR below.

Building Updates

Some good news this term. We went out to check in on the new build last week and wow is it coming along beautifully. The steel frames for the classroom blocks are now all up and it is starting to become a reality. It fits together like a Lego set! The classrooms and conference spaces are large and I can already picture groups of children working on projects and activities in a motivating and interesting environment.

The administrative section will be structurally up in a couple of weeks and we again visit the site to check all is as planned on paper.

There is still a large amount of safety fencing erected around the school and the only entry point to the school is via the gate down near the Ga Ga pit gate. Trucks are often entering or leaving the school grounds so please exercise extreme caution.

Prep Enrolments 2021

Enrolment forms for Prep 2021 can be downloaded from our website or the PDF below. It would be great if these applications could be submitted by the end of May 2020 to assist us with planning. Please scan and email the completed application via the school email. The application may also be received via the post.

Current Rollins families with a sibling joining us in Prep for 2021 are asked to complete an enrolment form ASAP.

If needed, you can call 52 783 022 or email rollins.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au to obtain an enrolment form too.

Principal's Pondering

A Growth Mindset message...

Research has explained a growth mindset as ‘a willingness to confront challenges, viewing failure as a springboard for growth, and a passion for learning. Not surprisingly, this type of mindset is strongly linked to greater happiness and achievement in life.’ Children who are happy, comfortable, safe and confident have a greater outcome with learning and socialising.

Here’s a child friendly video as made by one of our communication apps, Class Dojo, that explains it brilliantly.

Story Time

Don't forget about Story time with Mr. C on Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays at 11am.  You may see the odd guest reader at times too. Thanks, Kelly for reading last Friday, it was great.

Many Thanks

I would again like to acknowledge the huge effort that our parents and carers have put into during this testing time. Taking on the role of parenting and teaching is not an easy task. Remember try and balance this duel role as best you can and don’t be too hard on yourselves. To look after your family during these times you need to ensure you are also in a good place.

Stay safe and again my sincere thanks for your support.
