Mental Health Public Speaking Challenge Final
The 6th Mental Health Public Speaking Challenge Final was held at St Ursula's College, Kingsgrove on Thursday 5th September.
Nine schools were involved in the final this year, and there were some great speeches supported by each school's research into diverse areas that looked at improving communication and awareness of youth mental health.
The topic we were randomly given was "What does an inclusive school look like for transgender students, and how can it improve the mental health of this population" The CGHS team talked about the importance of counselling for students and parents, and issues around unisex facilities and uniforms, as well as specific mental health issues faced by transgender students.
Georges River College - Peakhurst, took out the final this year with their topic "In what ways do our leaders (political and other), influence a culture of bullying - discuss positive and negative influences".
Thank you Dhriti, Prahbleen, Emmeline & Phoebe for your commitment to preparing for the day, and the maturity and responsible attitude you displayed whilst representing our school.
SRC
Children's/Teen Book Drive - A Term 3 community outreach initiative.
Books have been flying through the front door of the school with over 150 books donated. The SRC has been overwhelmed at the generosity of families in our school community. The books will all be donated directly to the Sydney Children's Hospital in order to brighten the day of young patients and their families.
Members of the SRC were selling Legacy Badges at Canterbury Station on 6 September.
