CGHS 2019 Years 7, 8 and 9 Learning Presentations
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be developing Learning Presentations based on their Personal Learning Plans (PLP) for 2019. This is an initiative designed here at school to enable the students of these Years to engage in their learning in a meaningful and goal oriented manner.
The PLP’s were completed by students earlier in the year to have them reflect on their learning.
The Student Learning Presentations are an opportunity for the students of Years 7, 8 and 9 to discuss their learning achievements for 2019 and their learning goals for 2020 to both members of staff and parents and caregivers. Students will also have an opportunity to present and discuss examples of work undertaken throughout the year. It is also an opportunity for members of the wider school community to acknowledge the hard work and efforts the students have devoted to their learning and we believe this to be an invaluable process in the development of each individual student.
The Learning Presentations are compulsory for Years 7 & 8 and will commence in Week 7 of Term 4 and will continue through to the end of Week 8. We would like to invite you to come and see your daughter’s Learning Presentation, along with a member of the staff here at CGHS. The presentations will take place in the Seminar Rooms in the Library and will take a maximum of 20 minutes duration. If students do not wish to present to a member of staff, they will be expected to upload a 2 minute video of their Learning Presentation to MOODLE where their Personal Best/DEAR teacher will be able to view their video presentation.
In order to run the presentations as smoothly and efficiently as possible, please book a time online at www.schoolinterviews.com.au and follow the instructions attached.
Your presence at the presentations is invaluable and your support of your daughter’s learning is appreciated. We look forward to seeing you in Term 4.

Year 10 BStreet Smart
On Tuesday 10th September 110 Year 10 students visited Qudos Arena to attend the be street smart excursion with 6,000 other NSW school students.
BStreet Smart is an engaging event designed to educate young people on responsible road behaviours.
The event starts by showing the audience a simulated and very realistic car crash seen. Actors role play the scene and a trauma doctor narrates the scene. The crash involved a motor bike rider and car full of young people. The young driver had a couple of drinks and makes a bad decision before the collision. The resolution of the scene involves real life emergency services, ambulance, police and fire brigade demonstrating all the steps involved in rescuing people from a car, emergency treatment for severely I hired patients, police investigation and legalities involved. It is a valuable insight into the personnel involved in car crash scenarios and their roles.
Throughout the event guest speakers who had their lives changed by car crashes of young people on the road told their stories. One young man spoke about falling asleep at the wheel and how different his life is now living with a brain injury. A young woman spoke about being hit by a truck and how her physical abilities have been severely affected. Another young woman spoke about the dangers of drink driving and how it caused her to become a paraplegic.
Dangerous behaviours such as using a phone, speeding, alcohol use and unsafe passenger behaviours were presented and the consequences of each discussed.
At break time students were able to meet the guest speakers, try wheelchair basketball, practise CPR, speak with paramedics, police, fire brigade and even go inside the emergency vehicles.
It was an amazing event that highlighted the need for responsible road use behaviour by all and particularly inexperienced drivers such as young people. Our Year 10 students gained many valuable lessons from this event in hope to keep them safe on the roads.
