DiWali

All the children at school have been working on lanterns to celebrate Diwali.  The lanterns are displayed in the Library - Please come also and have a look at the beautiful display.

Reading

Please keep the reading up every night (if your child is tired at night try doing the reading in the mornings before coming to school ). Remember to talk about the story including things like:

"What was the character thinking, doing, wondering?"

"What could happen in the story?"

"What could happen differently?"

Gaining meaning from print is critical to enjoying and learning from reading.  Good readers make sense, check that the text looks right, sounds right and they are fluent.

Student Road Safety

On Tuesday very sadly we had a Yr.1 student hit by a car .  He was crossing the lights and the car turning did not see him.

Even though children think they are crossing safely and have right of way we cannot always trust that cars will do the right thing, so please teach children to be alert at all times and look around their surroundings to ensure it is safe to cross the road.

Unfortunately we still have children that are not using the school crossing but rather crossing the road between cars which is very unsafe. Let us use this as a road safety reminder to ensure that our students cross at the school crossing at all times.

Bikes/Skateboards

It is great to see so many children are riding to school.  Please ensure children wear helmets and we do not ride bikes/skateboards in the school yard.

China Family Trip

We set off to China next Monday.  There are 17 people visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Xian.  We are visiting our sister school in Nanjing.  I am sure highlights will be The Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, Tienanmen Square and Disneyland.

Art Project

Our Sculpture for the garden is coming along.  The work is at the engineering stage.  We are also producing a book from all the stories and artwork from our families.

Terracotta Warriors Excursion

Last Friday 31 students visited the National Gallery of Victoria to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibition.  The children enjoyed the Gallery and also Art Play along the Yarra river.

Thankyou to our Parent Khursheed and Sarah who volunteered their time to help with the excursion.

Cooking Class

Last night we held the Turkish Cooking Class.  We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Sinem and Kylie who were wonderful.  We enjoyed making and eating the yummy food.
