From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

The last couple of weeks have seen the development of an unprecedented event across the

world as we come to terms with the pandemic – COVID-19. With such events can come

great uncertainty and concern, particularly for the more vulnerable members of our

community. It is important that we stay updated with the latest facts and expert advice as it

comes to hand. We are communicating these updates to the community through PAM daily

messages and bulk emails to parents.

If you choose to keep your children at home, we will provide you with links to educational

sites and advice on learning at home. For students in the School of Innovation, they will be

able to continue to access their learning tasks on SIMON and Essential Assessment accounts.

We are working with our students to be vigilant in good hygiene practices, particularly

handwashing. We are also using age-appropriate teaching moments to ensure students

understand what social distancing is and why it is important in the time of a pandemic.

As a staff, we continue to work on our two main focuses for the year: Our research into

Inquiry learning and the development of a behaviour support team to implement a positive

behaviour framework. In terms of the Inquiry learning, we have spent our student-free days

with a critical colleague, Marcia Behrenbruch, deepening our understanding of the Inquiry

process, the evidence base and theory that underpins this learning approach. The behaviour

support team are working with behaviour analyst Dan Petro in building the school-wide

positive behaviour framework through which we can develop our three college

expectations. We will be continuing our work with Marcia and Dan throughout the year with

opportunities to share our learning with the wider community as we progress.

We have received communication that there has been a suspension of public liturgies in the

Catholic church and there will be no masses until further notice. Catholics have been

dispensed from their Sunday obligation until further notice. (canon 1248) In this time of

Lent, a preparation for the Easter mysteries, we must remember that Jesus, upon appearing

to the disciples after his resurrection said many times: Peace be with you. The Bishops of

the Province of Victoria remind us of this and encourage us “… not to panic, nor be anxious,

nor reduce ourselves to caring only for ourselves. This is a time to be sensible, practical,

prayerful, and to share in Christ’s peace with those who are struggling to feel calm and

safe.” (Letter from Bishops of Province of Victoria, March 19, 2020)

During this time of uncertainty, please take the time to think of the things we are grateful

for; moments of prayer and reflection can help us to find the JOY in our lives.
