OVERSEAS STUDENT OPPORTUNITY

With the recent relaxation of border restrictions and the renewed interest in overseas students coming to Australia again, the College is open to consider applications for vacancies in its Overseas Student Program for 2022 and 2023 at both of its campuses. The Overseas Student Program has some particular requirements that include:

  • the capacity for the student to meet a certain level of English proficiency
  • the applicant must be a blood relative of an existing school family and be staying with that family for the duration of their schooling in Australia
  • it is only open to students who wish to go on to study the Victorian Certificate of Education
  • students wishing to apply must undertake a minimum of one year at Year 10 (Students may be accepted for a single semester at Year 10 2022 depending on language proficiency).

Students who apply must also satisfy all other requirements as per the current enrolment policy.

As such, if you have any relatives wanting to study in Australia to complete the Victorian Certificate of Education that are currently in an equivalent Year 9 or Year 10 in Australia, already have or can gain English proficiency (usually via an Australian based English Language program), we encourage you to make contact with the College at this link to discuss the opportunity further. Detailed information on the Overseas Student Program is available here.

WONDERFULLY MADE

JOSEPH HOH (CLASS OF '16, WS)

On 30th of April, our current VCE Media students had the opportunity to attend the premiere of a former Waverley Media student’s short animated film. Joseph Hoh, who created his own short film in Media in 2015, has created a short animated film titled ‘Wonderfully Made’, which celebrates the beauty of Creation by following the story of a young boy as he soars through vibrant illustrations of the natural world.

During the premiere, Joseph explained the film-making process to students and to the dozens of other viewers who had attended to support and celebrate the completion of his film project. It was wonderful to hear how the beautiful scenes were animated and how his time at WCC and his animation course at Swinburne had inspired his skill development. How fantastic that Joseph seized the opportunity to use his creative skills to make a film that celebrates the glory in God’s creation, especially in his creation of people as unique, ‘wonderfully made’ individuals. It was great to see the current Media students inspired to develop their own creative ideas and to see that there are possible pathways ahead for them in their own Media journeys.

VCAL'S BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

HOLLY BUTLER (CLASS OF '13, NWS)

Waverley Christian College’s current VCAL class has recently been learning about ‘How to run a business' and how important connections are.

Over the recent months, we have been tasked to research and create our own small businesses. Mr Jeremy Dover has guided the students in their Literacy and Numeracy classes, by creating their own business proposals for future careers post graduating.

The College was given the chance to visit a past student, Holly Butler, who runs her own custom bridal store. We were shown the process of starting a successful business and heard about her journey to get there. Our very own, Mr Ben Martinez, was one of her main inspirations at school and said that to this day he is still one of her biggest supporters.

Holly is very passionate about her business which she calls her own little ‘ministry’. She deeply values getting to know her customers on a personal level as it helps her visualise ideas. Holly appreciates all the amazing friends she made during her time at Waverley, as it provided an opportunity to highlight their gifts and talents, as well as help her achieve her personal goals.

You can check out Holly's business here

MEDIA MASTERCLASS

LUIS HERRERA (CLASS OF '17, NWS)

Gallery Image

I had the privilege to teach a masterclass to these students about understanding the fundamentals of filmmaking and how to shoot a video with mirrorless cameras. We were able to unpack the different camera settings which enabled us to achieve cinematic visuals for their projects. It was great fun to be able to share my passion and skills with the students.
