Grade Three

WOW! It’s now Term 2!

We can’t believe how quickly term 1 went and how hard we all worked. We continue to be thrilled with how well the students have commenced the school year. Every grade three class has observed how settled the students are and how much independence and maturity has been shown already.

English

In English, we have been focusing on narrative and persuasive reading and writing. Students have been participating in Readers Workshop where they have been using their skills to identify the difference between  fiction and non-fiction text. We have participated in weekly reading comprehension tasks and have begun to learn how to improve their reading fluency and expression.

In writing, students worked through the writing process to produce a published writing piece in both the genre of narrative and persuasive.

It is extremely impressive and rewarding to see the development and growth in writing. In Smart spelling we have looked at both single sound words as well as more difficult sounds where multiple letters are being used.

Mathematics

In Mathematics we have focused on Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Time and Money. Students have been encouraged to apply their knowledge to worded problems using a range of strategies. Each week we focus on  specific mental computation strategies and then use it as an ongoing concept.

Integrated

During our integrated sessions we have been exploring the topic of identity and where we fit into the world. We have focused heavily on friendships and the students have participated in regular circle time sessions. Throughout the term we have also covered International Women’s Day and have implemented a number of Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships activities as well as Cyber Safety lessons. We were fortunate enough to attend a cyber safety presentation just last week!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our MUMS a Happy Mother’s Day!

We hope you all have a wonderful term!
