Athletics Day - this Friday 29th April

This Friday we will be running our whole-school Sports Day at school. This is a whole-community event and we invite parents and families to come along, help out and lend your support to our budding athletes.

The day runs on the Oval next to school and students complete (F-2 students in their classes and 3-6 students in their gender and age groups) in a range of athletic events. Whilst the emphasis is on staying active and having fun, for our older students, the events will be used to help us select our squad for the upcoming district athletics competition.

We are always in need of adult (or older children) helpers on the day to help us run the events. If you are free on Friday and can help us run the events then please contact Luke Jones on luke.jones@education.vic.gov.au

NAPLAN 2022

Information will be sent home this afternoon to our Year 3 and Year 5 families regarding this year's NAPLAN tests, taking place during weeks 3 and 4 of this term.

NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit in May each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students do.

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ progress.

Please take the time to read over the information sent home and do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher or Matt Cook, our Assistant Principal, if you have any questions about the tests or the additional adjustments that we can offer for students with additional needs.

Year 7 Transition process

With the start of term 2, this week also sees the beginning of the application process for secondary school places for our Year 7 students.

Enrolling your child in Year 7 is an important part of their education journey. We want to help you make the transition process as easy as possible.

This afternoon Year 6 students have been provided with a transition pack that contains;

  • A factsheet from the Department outlining the process
  • A ‘Placement Information Pack
  • A Privacy Notice
  • An Application for Year 7 Placement 2023 form

We ask all of our Year 6 families to compete and return this application form, even if they are intending for their child to attend a non-government school next year. These forms must be submitted to your child’s class teacher or the school office by Friday 13th May.

The school will then manage the process and families will be informed of their child’s secondary school by Wednesday 20th July.

Tax-Deductable contributions to SKiPPS

For the first time in 2022, SKiPPS is operating two Deductable Gift Recipient (DGR) funds which allow parents and community members to make donations that are tax deductible.

As we approach the end of the tax year, we ask parents to bear us in mind if they are looking to receive the tax benefits that charitable donations can bring.

We have two funds - a School Building Fund (which is then used to maintain and upgrade our school buildings) and also a School Library Fund (which is used to build and maintain our school library). All donations would be gratefully received.

if you wish to make a donation please contact Nova, our Business Manager on nova.whitehead@education.vic.gov.au . To find out more about the tax benefits of donating to a DGR fund, please speak to your accountant.

2023 School Tours

Even though it feels like the school year has just begun, we have set dates for school tours for prospective parents who are interested in enrolling their children at SKiPPS in 2023.

If you know of any parents of students starting school next year, please encourage them to contact the office.
