State Swimming Championships

Last Friday, 4 boys from Grade 4 headed off to MSAC to compete in the School Sport Victoria State Swimming Championships, in the 9/10yo 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay. Having won through our District, Division and Regional Championships, Angus J, Albie N, Toby T and Bobby Z, competed against regional champions from across the state. The boys did an amazing job and managed to bring home the bronze medal for Malvern Primary School. The boys should be immensely proud of their efforts -  well done and congratulations!

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day this year commemorates 107 years since the landing at Gallipoli and the significance of ANZAC Day continues to be strong.

ANZAC Day is a commemoration of significance not only because of the great sacrifices of World War 1, but also because as a result of World War 1 we have defined what we see as the character of modern Australia and the qualities that we see as important for us all as Australians - courage, bravery, endurance, determination, mateship and service.

We all need to have an understanding of the important events in our history that have helped to develop our nation and that impact our values and beliefs about ourselves. The Australian History Curriculum covered in Victorian schools is fundamental to developing this understanding in our young people.

World War 1 was a defining period in Australia’s history. It was the first major conflict of the newly federated Australia and one of the most significant events of World War 1 was the landing at Gallipoli.

ANZAC Day has come to represent so much more than the landing at Gallipoli, on this day we honour all the men and women who have participated in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations around the world and take time to reflect on and appreciate their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families.

Last Tuesday the staff and students held our own ceremony, which was run by our Year 6 Captains.

Student Opinion Survey - Years 4 to 6

The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey for Year 4 to Year 12 students offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school.

Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students from Years 4, 5 and 6 at our school will participate in the survey in the next few weeks. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of July. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Start of the School Day

It has been lovely to start the new term with further reductions to the restrictions as a result of the COVID pandemic.

Students are no longer required to enter their classrooms at the 8.45am bell, they are free to play in the yard.  What we are asking is that students enter their classrooms at the 8.55am bell so they can unpack their bags and be seated ready to start learning at 9am.

We have teachers on duty in the yard from 8.45am so parents are asked not to drop their children off before this time.  I know some of our students are keen to play in the yard with their friends before 8.45am, however this is only possible with parent supervision.

Late Arrivals

Can I please remind parents that our students are expected to be in their classroom by 9am ready to start the school day.

If your child is late to school, a parent or carer must come to the office to sign the child in, the children cannot sign themselves in.  I know this can be inconvenient for families who are possibly already running late, however it is to ensure the safety of your child.
