Dunhelen

                                                                  Mrs Francis Scuderi

Welcome to Term 2. I do hope that the students had a chance to rest and unwind and are ready for another busy term.

Year 8 Werribee Gorge Excursion

Last week the Year 8 students attended an excursion to Werribee Gorge State Park. It was an enjoyable but tiring day. Students undertook a 10km Werribee Gorge Circuit Walk where they gained real-life experience of geological rock formations studied in Term 2 Science. The focus of the excursion was Geology, Indigenous History and bush foods, animal, and plant life. Thank you to Ms Sadler and Mr Francey for organising this great day out.

Dunhelen Athletics Carnival

The weather held out for the Dunhelen House Athletics Carnival. It was a great day with huge participation and lots of fun. This year Millar took out the House Athletics Award. Thank you to the PE staff, particularly Mr Ben Prentice, for all their hard work and organisation.

Funhelen Event

Due to the forecast for bad weather the decision was made to cancel the ‘Funhelen’ event that was scheduled for this week. We will be rescheduling this event and hoping for better weather so the Year 9 students will have an opportunity to showcase their Service Project learning.

Internet Safety Incursion

We were once again fortunate to have Mr Brett Lee speaking to all Dunhelen students about staying safe online.  Brett Lee is a former detective who worked as a police officer for 22 years. For a lot of that time he was working in the field of child exploitation. He has been involved in the arrest of hundreds of online predators and criminals. He works with Internet Safe Education, which delivers and provides talks and programs about being aware and safe online. While the presentations were tailored for the relevant year levels, he did have five points that all students should remember. With Brett Lee’s permission they are listed below.

  1. The online space is PUBLIC and PERMANENT.
  2. My identity is worth gold.
  3. Online contacts remain strangers.
  4. Online rules and laws are real.
  5. I take action when things go wrong online.
