St Brigid Senior Learning Centre

Killester College Building Project

Senior Learning Centre and extended Kennedy Hall

With the upgrade of facilities for our senior students as our priority, the last twelve months have seen the new St Brigid Senior Learning Centre and the new Kennedy Hall takings shape. The contract completion date had been set for May 2023 and on the 12th of May 2023 we received our Occupancy Permit.

The building project has been completed on time and on budget. With the volatility in the building industry at present, which has also impacted our own builders, we are extremely grateful for the wonderful support of our builders and architects who have had to troubleshoot a number of obstacles. They were ably supported by our Maintenance Manager, Ralph Wellington who worked closely with the builders to ensure the finished buildings were exactly as we envisioned.

On Monday the 15th of May the very excited Year 11 and 12 students moved into their modern classrooms and breakout spaces with a large well-appointed Common Room for the Year 12s.

The PE staff are enjoying their new sports hall, classrooms, office, and gymnasium after having to travel to external venues over the last 15 months. The Hall will be used for a Solidarity Mass on the 25th of May when the Hall is transformed into a sacred space with the opening of the nave.

Plans are already underway for the long overdue extension of our staff area as our numbers have outgrown the current spaces. These renovations will be possible as we can relocate our staff to the areas vacated by our senior students.

As I retire at the end of this Term, I am pleased to have this project finalised and hand the next project over to the new Business Manager, Ms. Trish Pham, and Ralph our Maintenance Manager. I will look forward to seeing the changes to come.

My nine years at Killester have been busy, challenging, rewarding, and totally enjoyable and I feel grateful to have finished my working career at such a fabulous College with committed and caring colleagues whose focus is first and foremost about the students, their success, and wellbeing.

May they be blessed with good health and strength to keep up the great work that they do.
