It is wonderful to again be informing the Alumni of some of our school events over the recent months.

The school year began with great energy and enthusiasm.  The annual photos on Day 1 are always a wonderful time to reconnect with our students. The opening assembly saw the welcome of our Year 7 students and the welcome back of our high achievers from the Year 12 2022 cohort. What amazing results this group achieved! Preparations began quickly for the 2023 Swimming Carnival, to be held at NPAC (Noble Park Aquatic Centre). The Year 7s experienced swimming trials and a welcome to the school by the Year 12 students.

We celebrated International Women’s Day in March. With two hundred people in attendance at the breakfast, it was bound to be a morning that reflected a strong sense of unity and pride for women within our school and wider community. We were very pleased to have Murrundindi (Head man of the Wurundjeri, and his three grand-daughters from Years 10, 8 and 7, Welcome us all to Country). Jackie Nugara was the keynote speaker, discussing her time at Killester as a student and the personal hurdles she has overcome in her life.  It was wonderful to also have so many representatives from community organisations, Vic Police and the local council in attendance.

The Year 7 Phillip Island Camp was a great success and the students were very engaged in a range of activities under bright skies. Our Year 11(Beechworth) and 12s (Blampied) students departed for their Retreats in March. The aim for our students is to be grateful for the positive aspects of their developing lives and to look to the future with hope. As well as an increased awareness of themselves and to develop a stronger relationship with their peers and their God.

The new College Ambassadors, ten of them from Years 8-11, have begun working on the multicultural signage ideas for the school and have been involved in many local events and have represented the students in school tours. Together with the Student Committee Leaders, they are all excellent representatives of the school.

The Twilight Opening, Harmony Day, Parent/Student/Teacher Learning Conversations and the Easter Liturgy/Raffle were all very well supported again.

A number of students attending the dawn services in Dandenong and Springvale, together with a number of Alumni members. Our first school tour in May saw thirty families attend, with glowing reports from them regarding the students who took them around. These events continue to be a wonderful link between the ‘school in action’ and prospective students and their families. The Athletics Carnival for 2023 certainly had a different look and required more in the way of organisation, as we transported all students to the Duncan McKinnon track. This was due to the Noble Park Track being redesigned and still under construction. We were extremely lucky with the weather and, very exciting for me, Brigid were victorious. That was a win for both the swimming and the athletics!

Community Connections continue to develop and thrive. We have also been extremely grateful to all of the Alumni who have been involved in the many programs within the school, including as guest speakers, in the Year 10 Dare to Dream week and in the Years 7-9 Wonder Program.

It was also fabulous to have the reunions for the Class of 1972, 1982 and 2012 last year. There are three already booked in for 2023 – Class of 1973, 1983 and 2013.

Please see the Alumni Reunions page for further information.

Finally, there have been many comments amongst visiting Alumni members regarding the changes to the school uniform – including the colour for some of the ‘older’ members. The students are certainly enjoying the choice of dress, skirt, pants at any time of the year. They are also wearing their PE uniform to and from school on days when they have PE classes.
