Semester 1 Exams

Students undertaking Year 11 ATAR and 12 ATAR courses are preparing for their exams.  The exams commenced in week 4, May 18 and teachers are conducting revision sessions in class to prepare students. I encourage students to use their time wisely to revise for these exams and ask the teaching staff if they need further assistance.

All exams will commence at 8.10 am and take between 2 - 3 hours to complete. In accordance with the WA College of Agriculture – Denmark Assessment Policy, all students must sit the exam on the day/time period specified. The only exception to this requirement will be if the student has a medical certificate from a doctor confirming that the student was unable to participate on the day.

We have made arrangements for the students taking exams to opt out of normal school uniform in an effort to ensure they are as comfortable as possible, good dress standards still exist and students should dress appropriately for the day.

Information on exam guidelines is found here:

Year 11 General APS Digestive Assessment – Miss Petrie

As part of the Year 11 General Animal Production Systems, students participated in a cake off.  In teams they were allocated a digestive system and had twenty minutes to design the cake using the ingredients provided. The cake was required to have detail and students had to explain the workings of their digestive system. They then had one hour to create the cake. Ash from the kitchen was an excellent judge.

Year 10 English Assessment – Mrs Goodwill

Year 10 English students have been busy researching, scripting, practising and recording a short speech on a subject of personal interest. Topics include agricultural matters, technology, issues affecting young people and environmental concerns.  Students had a choice of presenting live or recording their speech - and we have seen many different digital formats being used. Congratulations to the whole group for being willing to get out of their comfort zone and try new things for this speaking task.

Year 10 STEM Excursion – Mrs Terry

The Year 10 students travelled to the Albany Aquatic and Leisure Centre for the afternoon of Tuesday 2nd May to attend the Albany STEM festival. Students excitedly participated in visiting the various stalls, interacting in activities and learning about career opportunities in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. Stalls included Edith Cowan University where students had to guess what the cockatoo nesting apparatus was and learn about the different science degrees on offer, Albany aquaculture where students used microscopes to observe algae and learn how algae is grown to be used for feeding oysters, along with the lifecycle of oysters, learning about an application to help write a resume with a business called Student Edge and learning about the science involved in water treatment. Students were enthusiastic about opportunities to learn about jobs, pathways and research that is locally available.
