Year 2 Update

During the next fortnight, students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:

Subject	Learning Focus
English/Reading	Week 8&9: We will continue to explore a range of texts that include sounds and heart words as part of our Little Learners Love Literacy program. This week students will be learning to use the long/i/ and /igh/, in week 8&9, correctly. Students will participate in a range of reading activities that will support them in developing their phonological awareness. In particular focusing on learning to read known and unknown texts with fluency and use self-correcting skills.
English/Writing	Week 8&9: Students have begun to explore procedural writing. Participating in language rich experiences, like making playdough, before writing about the experience by following the steps they took.
Maths	Week 8&9: Students will be continuing to build on their knowledge of money, using addition strategies, with coins and notes.
Inquiry (Past, present, future)	Week 8&9: Students will be finalising the unit through a final celebration. In week 9 students will be attending an incursion looking at toys and technology over time. Students will get a chance to see and handle past technology from over the last 110 years.
Social & Emotional Learning	Week 8&9: Students will be learning what it means to show respect and building relationships, whilst practicing respect for each other through cooperative group work.

News and Reminders

LLLL reading record-Please sign your child's reading log (located at the back of their phonics book) every night.
Library-Remember to return your books on your class's assigned library day.
All readers need to be returned this Friday the 16th of June for sorting ready for Term 3.
Last day of term 2 - Friday 23rd June. Please remember that the school day finishes at 2.30pm, with teachers on duty until 2.45pm. After this time parents will need to organise care if you are not able to pick you child/children.
PJ Day! Friday the 15th of June is a whole school PJ day! Please send along a gold coin donation for supporting children in care. Please remember that it will be cold, so warm pyjamas will be important. Slippers are allowed to be worn inside but students will need to bring appropriate school footwear for outside play.
