PSA Round 3 Review

It is always a challenging fixture against Christ Church, and this one was no exception. The Trinity Football Program continues to display improvements in the overall program. A strong win by our 1sts team (73-37) was backed up by every football team having a win against CCGS. Fifteen wins out of 15 fixtures is a massive achievement!

Our Soccer Program had some solid wins and a couple of close losses. Well done to the 2nd’s Soccer (7-2), 8A (6-0), and 8C (10-1) for some outstanding wins. The 1sts Soccer team were able to grind out a 0-0 draw to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Shield Rugby played a three-way fixture against Hale, and Scotch was able to win both of their games. The middle A and B teams also had some solid wins (47-0, 35-25) to show that our Middle School Rugby Program is developing very nicely. Unfortunately, the 1sts Rugby team could not hold on to their early lead, conceding a couple of late tries to go down 29-17.

Congratulations to the Middle School Badminton teams, who were unbeaten in all fixtures. Both our Hockey and Cross Country Programs displayed glimpses of our potential. However, CCGS proved to be far too strong across the board.

PSA Round 4 Preview

This week’s fixture sees Trinity against Guildford for the first time this season. This is an away fixture; however, due to the number of teams Guildford can provide, many of our games are against different opposition and at other venues. Parents and students are asked to please check the Seqta team lists carefully.

Senior Sports – Weeks 4 & 5

Training will continue as usual during the exam weeks for Year 11 and 12 students. Students are encouraged to attend as many training sessions as possible and are expected to contact their Manager/Coach if they cannot participate in training due to exams, etc. All students must attend the Saturday fixtures in Weeks 4 (v Guildford) and Week 5 (v Wesley).

Week 6 Sport

Due to the bye in Week 6, there will be no sports training for most teams during the week. However, 1st squads will train on Tuesday, 30 May for their Thursday fixture on the 1st of June.

Concussion Policy

Trinity has recently implemented a Concussion Policy that takes effect throughout this PSA winter season. There is a growing and persuasive body of evidence indicating a lower rate of recovery in children and adolescents who may experience a concussion. Therefore, acting in the ‘best interest of students, the College will adopt a conservative approach to managing a student’s concussion and their restoration to health, where their return to learn will take priority over their return to competitive sport.'

This Concussion Policy is a comprehensive plan that will be followed by all staff, coaches, parents, and students in the case of a concussion occurring to a student during sports training or games. Whilst the policy information and the entire process that has to be followed will be sent to parents of students who suffer a concussion, there are vital points that parents and students have to be aware of if a possible concussion occurs:

Students who suffer a head or concussion injury during College sports will be offered First Aid at the time of injury.
Students with suspected concussions will not return to play on the day of injury. A clear motto of “If in doubt, sit them out” will be followed by all staff and coaches.
All possible concussion/head injuries will be reported by staff to the Director of Sports for follow-up with the parents.
1. If the staff are unaware of a possible head injury to the student, parents are encouraged to report possible concussions to the Director of Sport.
2. Junior School Concussions will be reported to the JS Physical Education Teacher.
The Director of Sport will contact the parents by the Monday after the game outlining the Concussion policy process that will need to be followed before students are able to be cleared to Return to Sport and Return to Learn.

A clear Return to Sport and Return to Learn process will be followed if a student is diagnosed with a concussion. This process will be sent to the parents of the students affected.

If a possible concussion has been reported or concussion has been diagnosed, then for the College to fulfil its duty of care obligations, students who do not provide a medical clearance letter to the Director of Sports will not be selected for a sporting team.

Parents must alert the Director of Sport as soon as possible after the weekend if their son has suffered a possible concussion during a club sport game.

Parent & Spectator Code of Conduct

Sporting Events

At Trinity College, we cherish all of the parent, family, and spectator support provided to our students at all sporting events. From a College perspective, we understand the importance of our spectator support and the richness of the contributions that all supporters bring, whether it be sitting on the sidelines supporting the students, goal umpiring a football match, or providing lollies and fruit at half-time to many of the games.

As a College, we acknowledge the involvement and contribution made by parents to the sporting and extracurricular programs chosen by their sons. We encourage parents to participate in such activities and to support their sons. However, we also have clear expectations of parents (and spectators) of these events and activities.

At these events, especially sporting events, parents are expected to:

Encourage their son to participate in all training sessions and fixtures
Always uphold the principles of good sportsmanship and fair play
Never ridicule, berate, discourage, or otherwise distract your child or another child
Always engage officials, coaches, and all players in a positive and supportive manner
Never interfere with an activity

Secondary Champion Schools Cross Country Carnival

On Thursday, 40 students from Trinity College competed at the Secondary Champion Schools Cross Country Carnival. This competition is the platform for students to be eligible for the School Sport WA Interstate Cross Country team selection. This team will compete in Canberra's School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships later this year. Congratulations to all the Trinity College runners for their fantastic effort and for representing Trinity College with great vigour.
