Prep News

In Prep, we have been busy learning lots of new things! We made beautiful posters with

our buddies about littering and we had Grandparents’ Day. The children loved showing off their work to their grandparents and special people, and read stories and did colouring together as well.

In literacy, we have been practising writing sentences and sounding out the words. We have also been doing persuasive writing where we came up with opinions and reasons, and worked together in groups to write and present persuasive speeches on why school is the best.

In numeracy, we have been doing addition. We have been learning to count on and add one more.

1/2 News

We have had another busy fortnight with lots going on. Many of our students are getting ready to say goodbye to big brothers and sisters who will be away at camp next week. It's going to be very strange with just three grades left at school! We will be combining the two grade 1/2 classes as Miss Boddy will also be attending camp. On Tuesday, students will enjoy a Teddy Bear's Picnic with some sweet treats (thanks PFA!).

Students have been consolidating their understanding of subtraction. We have played subtraction games with tens frames, 100s charts, number lines and dice. Students have also been writing subtraction sums in maths books and solving them.

Students have completed their persuasive writing. They chose between whether they

would prefer to talk to animals or control the weather. Through group work and discussion, students came up with excellent arguments and supporting evidence. We also wrote a persuasive letter from our grades to Mr. Azadzoi asking for something - we hope he says yes!

We have been reading Dreamtime stories and talking about how these stories have been passed down from generation to generation. Students have compared various stories and discussed their similarities and differences.

In science students have been learning about living things and the characteristics they need to be classified as living. Our grass plants are growing beautifully and it has been wonderful watching them send down roots from the seeds and then sprouting grass.
