Co-curricular - Junior Sport
Last Week of Term 2
Blink and you would have missed it. It’s hard to believe that half a year has come and gone as we finish off Semester 1. Looking back, we have had some great experiences over the first two terms of the year. Starting with the arrival of our new Year 5 and welcoming them into the fold and quickly jumping into Summer sport trials. From there we headed into the Annual Junior School House Swimming Carnival, Cross Country (although we had to take two attempts at it) and rounding out Term 2 with the Junior School House Athletics Carnival. Not to mention the myriad of trials, tours, and training sessions.
The first half of the year has been a successful one for the Junior School in sport. Of the possible 319 rounds of sport played so far this year (we lost precious few due to rain), the boys in the Junior School have won more than 60% of their games. Considering the vast array of sports played and the nature of our competition, this is a remarkable achievement. Boys and their families have every right to be proud of these efforts and results. Considering there are still three rounds of Winter sport still to be played and the second half of the Summer season to be played, there is every chance of improving this percentage.
Over the semester break, I would encourage all the boys to take the opportunity to rest and recover. Often at this time of year, little niggles start to settle in and unfortunately, some boys may have experienced more significant injuries. The three-week holiday affords us some great recovery time, so I hope that you all use it to your advantage. I look forward to seeing all the boys in the Junior School fit and injury free in the early part of Term 3, ready to take on the final three rounds of the Winter season.
A few reminders for Term 3:
- Training resumes on the first day of Term 3, Monday 17 July
- Round 8 of Winter sport, Saturday 22 July
- Year 5 Supporters’ Day, Saturday 22 July (boys meet in the Powell Pavilion at
1:00 PM and are dismissed at around 5:00 PM)
Wishing everyone a restful and relaxing semester break. Take care and I look forward to seeing you all back in Term 3.
