Congratulations to Ashlea

This trip had been fruitful which saw both Ashlea and Atticus Tan proudly representing Australia in the African Championships, competing against small and agile sailors from that continent. We didn't win but we definitely didn't lose, according to them 😂 And yes, we did win through all the learning and definitely the friendships made. It was an amazing trip where they saw the beautiful landscapes of Morocco, ate through their cuisines, lived and breathed their daily lives for 3 weeks. 

Without this opportunity to sail for Team Australia in Morocco, these sailors may never have made it to that country and spent so much time with the locals. This trip had so much for us all to absorb, so much for us to share and there is just way too little time. 

Most admirably, Ashlea and Atticus had sailed bravely though the winds that were not in their favour, competing against just under 100 sailors. They don't train in light winds here, they go out in storms. And yet our 2 sailors patiently continued racing when the course took at least double the usual time and with merely any action due to low winds. Their spots detoriated as the winds continued to drop throughout the racing week and yet those two came back ashore with smiles bigger than the day before. Team racing was such a close call too. Coming in 4th out of 13 teams and the Australian team only lost due to a mere back count. The team was disappointed but again, we could definitely had used more wind.

This trip is well spent because these memories will always be treasured and they will always have bragging rights on being part of Team Australia 2023! And plenty of instagram memories too!

Well done, Ashlea and Atticus! We are so proud of you! May the winds be in your favour always and that you will continue to love being out there and living life to the fullest!
