From the Assistant Principal.

Dear Families,

YEAR 6 CANBERRA EXCURSION

In Week 6 I had the privilege of spending two days with our Year 6 students in Canberra. The students spent two days exploring our national capital and taking in part in a number of experiences to learn more about our democratic system of government and our Australian history. I would like to congratulate all of the Year 6 students for their exceptional behaviour and participation during this time.  Most of them even got a good night's sleep!!! Taking students away for this period of time takes a lot of preparation by the school staff and commitment from the teachers and support staff who give up their own family time to be with our students. The guides also congratulated them for the way in which they interacted in all of the experiences.

Year 6 have had many opportunities to represent our school so far this year and they all need to be congratulated for the positive way in which they engaged in these opportunities.

MOBILE DEVICES AT SCHOOL

The safe and secure use of technology related resources, promotes and maintains a safe and positive school culture. As a school we acknowledge that there are times when it is genuinely appropriate and useful for students to have access to mobile phones, smart watches and other connected devices. This includes students who walk home unsupervised or catch public transport to and from school. However, it is not necessary, nor acceptable for these devices to be accessible during the school day.

To this end, our Mobile Device Policy sets up important processes and procedures to ensure the safety of everyone.

From the beginning of Term 3, new procedures will apply to all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. You will be informed of these changes in our Week 10 newsletter.

ATTENDANCE

Sydney Catholic School's Policy for extended leave has changed. This is now any leave request longer than 5 days. Parents should approach the school to seek permission for extended leave for their child to travel during the school term.

HEALTH

Just a gentle reminder that students should stay home when they are sick especially since we are in the middle of winter and colds and flus are more prevalent. Classrooms are regularly cleaned and sanitised and teachers remind students to wash their hands and apply sanitiser at regular intervals.

HALF YEARLY PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

For those classes who have not had their interviews rescheduled, interviews will be in Week 10. The bookings will open this weekend and close on Saturday 24th June. Instructions on how to book has been communicated via Compass today.

Have a great week,

Jim Heelis
