Term 4

Feature News - Performing Arts

It has been a pleasure to see everyone’s faces again as I am welcomed into the Performing Arts role for Term One. Students across the school have settled in well and it is pleasing to see so many students using their character strength of curiosity and creativity when exploring the musical elements.

In Foundation, we have been making long and short sounds with our voices. Throughout this term we will also be learning about loud and soft sounds and demonstrate this with using instruments such as drums as well as identifying pitch and identifying what is a high and low sound.

The 1/2 classes have been exploring pitch and identifying which line of music has been played with the song ‘Looby Loo’. Throughout this term we will continue to look at pitch patterns and ordering them. We look forward to changing the pitch of known songs to create our own patterns.

Working towards a class ensemble is the goal for our 3/4 classes. Throughout this term we will look at how rhythms fit together and how tempo can change a beat. We will use body percussion to begin with before selecting instruments to fit the style of song we will play.

In 5/6, students have started a Cultural Inquiry unit of Indigenous Australian Performing Arts. We watched small videos of a ‘Fire Dance’ and a ‘Fishing Dance’ and looked at the different ways they moved their bodies to tell the story. We discussed how body language and movement can be powerful in conveying stories, meaning or messages.

Production:

The audition process will begin during Term One. Thank you to the students who attended Wednesday’s lunch time meeting and signed up for the process. I will be preparing audition packs which will include a script to memorise and a song to sing. Our next meeting will hopefully be next week during lunchtime.

Have a fantastic week!
