Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selemat Pagi!

We have had an exciting week in the Inquiry Centre as we continue to build strong friendships in the class and work as a team to explore our learning activities. It has been wonderful seeing everyone reading their take home books as they practise their new reading goals! We would love to continue celebrating students reading achievements through the comment boxes in their reading journals.

In Maths, we explored chance using keywords including ‘will happen’, ‘might happen’ and ‘won’t happen’. Our centre has decided that it is certain that we will eat lunch today! A highlight was experimenting in small groups whether whispering ‘roll me a 6’ would magically make us more likely to roll a 6 in comparison to not whispering. What do you think our results showed?

In Writing, we stood up to the lectern and bravely persuaded our class why we should be part of the Student Representatives Council. We also used the character strength of judgement as we created our own SMART learning goals with support through individual conferencing with our teachers. Our goals focused on Maths, Reading, Writing, Wellbeing and something special for ourselves. We can’t wait to see how we track along by the end of the term! In Reading, we sang along to the P.I.E song as we explored the author's purpose and text features for fiction and non-fiction texts.

In Guided Inquiry, we explored emergency service providers in Australia and role-played calling for Fire, Police and Ambulance help. This was coupled by our planned Lockdown Drill that happened this week. In Science, we introduced new worms to our garden using everything we knew about what they needed to survive. We considered what they eat, their habitat and somewhere they would feel safe away from predators. Many of us chose to bury them under some bushes as the bushes could keep birds away!

We can’t wait for another fun-filled week in the Inquiry Centre!
