Work Experience 2023

We had another successful work experience year with many of our students enjoying the opportunities they had arranged.  A huge benefit of the program is allowing students to experience and research an industry of interest which can assist with future subject selections. Students can also list this experience in their resume which can lead to part time work. Some interesting placements were organised this year, with some applications needing to be submitted last year. This included Melbourne Zoo, Victoria Police, Melbourne Water, Deakin University and Peninsula Health to name a few. We are very grateful for the employers who support this valuable program each year.

Year 9 Try a VET Day at St. Peter’s College

(Vocational Education and Training) Day was held across both campuses on Tuesday 13 th June. It was a huge success with more than 300 Year 9 students getting an opportunity to explore various options available in the VET sector.  12 different VET areas were covered throughout the day:

1. Building & Construction

2. Child Care

3. Conservation & Eco Systems

4. Dance

5. Engineering & Electrotechnology

6. FLC presented: Animal studies, Salon, Retail & Community Services

7. Health Services

8. Hospitality & Cookery

9. Information Technology

10. Lab Skills

11. Music

12. Sport & Rec

Students had the opportunity to visit both the Clyde North and Cranbourne campuses to experience the VET programs delivered onsite.

The program also included a couple of our local providers who spoke about the various studies available to them off site such as Animal studies, Salon, Retail & Community Services.

Baby chickens at our Clyde North campus were a cute addition to the Animal Studies session. Other activities held throughout the day included - icing biscuits, not as easy as it sounds, developing sports skills, creating a live telephone cable, musical performance by our Vet Music students and some sound production tips and donning the different PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required for the Health Care workers. Lab skills had a rotation of various tasks such as label testing.

Dance showcased a range from classical to hip hop.  Students received a lot of information on various career pathways available in each of these industries in an interactive environment. More information will be available at the College Futures Expo running on Monday 17 th July. The Parent information sessions will be delivered by the College Leadership team between 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm on a rotating roster available at both the Cranbourne & Clyde North campus.

Please put this date in your diary!
