Visit from Author Boori Monty Pryor

Late in Term 3, Year 7 classes at Cranbourne and Clyde North campuses were fortunate to experience the wonderful storytelling and didgeridoo performance by multi-award-winning children’s author Boori Monty Pryor.  Boori was born in Townsville, North Queensland. His father was from the Birrigubba people of the Bowen region and his mother is from Yarrabah (near Cairns), a descendant of the Kungganji.  Boori was the Children’s Literature Laureate of Australia, sharing this title with Alison Lester in 2012 and 2013.  As well as to play the haunting didgeridoo, Boori came to present and discuss his latest book ‘Story Doctors’.  Story Doctors, acknowledges our true history, embracing inclusivity, and celebrating the healing powers of nature and culture. From the very first stories and art, to dance, language, and connection with the land, Boori offers a powerful, beautiful, and deeply rich account of Australia's true history, drawing on a lifetime of wisdom, and on his generous instinct to teach and heal. Thoughtfully illustrated by Boori’s friend Rita Sinclair, Story Doctors celebrates the power of storytelling to unite us, how nature connects us, and the wonderful truth that the medicine needed for healing lies within us all.
