Library Life

The best word to describe life in the iCentre this term is bustling. Day-in and day-out we have had the pleasure of supporting students before and after school, during class visits, and lunch breaks. Many senior students have made good use of the opportunity to access mentors in the afternoon, seeking assistance with homework and assignment tasks. Likewise, during exam block many students came to the iCentre to study for exams or record for video tasks. The printer has also been getting a good work out and parents may want to check if students need their print credit topped up. To do this, use the College Coin facility on the College App. The other high-use resource has been laptop chargers – parents may also like to assist us by encouraging students to arrive at school with a fully-charged laptop.

Research

A key focus of Term 2 was Research with fourteen tasks undertaken across year levels. The iCentre assists students in their research with our Research Guides. These guides are curated sources that aim to a provide an entry point for students to access high quality information on the topics they are researching. In a world of info-whelm and fake news, the value of trusted sources cannot be underestimated. We also love helping student with any referencing queries they have. As the impact of AI on original content and intellectual property increases, referencing is certain to become more important. As referencing specialists, the iCentre are always happy to assist students with this.

Fun Times

It’s not all serious business in the iCentre, we have a lot of fun as well. As previously reported, Tech Week was a real highlight this term with many big fun items such as 3D printing, creating wearable tech, flying drones, discussing AI, and using augmented reality for a treasure hunt. Our recently created, games trolley has been popular, and Uno games are now a regular site at lunch breaks. Chess club is hosted in the iCentre, and it has been a delight to watch Mr McInerney play against multiple students at once. The Writer’s Club have also been busy and will publish their next edition of Communi-Tea early next term. Book borrowing for holidays is in full swing and we have a list of recommendations for students wanting to Cosy-up with a book on the iCentre Website.

Looking Ahead

To say we are looking forward to Term 3 is an understatement. In week 2, July 17 – 23, the iCentre hosts Literacy Week and, together with students, we have some wonderful events on the program. Our Read with your Dad evening has already been a sell-out event and is always a special night in our calendar. We can not wait to meet author, Karen Comer as her book, Grace Notes has made a real impact on all of us who’ve read it. This year, we will also host our first Literacy Week Breakfast and are excited that students will have the opportunity to attend this opportunity.
