Reading
In Reading, we have continued learning some new digraphs (two letters that make one sound). The digraphs that we learnt this past fortnight were: th, ou, oi, ue, er and ar. Students have also begun to learn about tricky words. These are words which cannot be sounded out easily. So far, we have learnt the tricky words: saw, was, said and is. Students have practiced writing these words in sand and rice and identifying them in sentences.
Writing
In Writing, we have continued to begin each week with a fun and engaging experience that becomes our recount focus for the week. Last week we made our own bubble wands and blew bubbles outside, and this week we explored a slimy mess in our Prep library left by Arnold the monster. Students created a title, drew a picture, and wrote a sentence for each of these experiences. It has been amazing to watch their confidence in writing increase each week. We look forward to watching their writing abilities develop even further!
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about the days of the week, what days we come to school and what days we stay at home. We have explored what events we associate with each day and what order particular events happen in our day. Prep students have also enjoyed exploring the features of a clock and learning how to read o’clock times on a digital and analogue clock!
Integrated
In Integrated this past fortnight we have continued exploring our school values, with a specific focus on Open-Minded. We discussed that our value of Open-Minded is all about listening and considering other people's ideas that are different to our own. Students demonstrated their understanding of this value by categorising scenarios as either being open-minded or close-minded. These scenarios were framed around cultures, beliefs, foods and friendships.
We also refreshed our memories of our previously learnt values, Respect, Daring, United and Performance. Students worked with their peers to discuss the meaning and examples of each value through a values dice-rolling activity. They then demonstrated their understanding of our values, United and Respect by cooperating in groups to colour each letter in our PROUD acronym. This shared colouring activity will be on display in each classroom as a reminder of each of our school values and whole-school expectations.
