NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC week is such a special time on the Australian calendar. It is a time to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

While NAIDOC week occurred during the holidays, Healesville High School took the opportunity to celebrate during Week 1. Students completed Home Group discussions, quizzes and competitions, sports classes participated in Indigenous games, cooking classes incorporated Indigenous ingredients. In addition, our Junior School had an informative assembly with Thomas Harrison (Koori Engagement Support Officer) where he explained to them this year's theme of 'For Our Elders' and the elders who had influenced his own life.

Thomas also hosted a get together with our Indigenous students providing food and good conversation to recognise and celebrate the occasion.

Thank you to all the members of the school community who took part in these activities across the week. We hope that all of our students and staff managed to learn something new about Indigenous culture and gained a great appreciation of their contributions.
