Junior School

Congratulations and well done to our students for completing another fantastic and busy term in Junior School. Thank you to our students for giving their personal best and reaching goals across all areas of the curriculum. Thank you, parents, for your amazing support of teaching and learning at Oxley. Thank you to all our wonderful staff for their hard work and dedication in supporting our students’ social, emotional, spiritual, and academic growth. I pray everyone in our community enjoys a much deserved break over the coming weeks.

On Friday 23 June, Semester 1 Reports will be available for families to access on SEQTA Engage. These reports focus on what your child can do and provides information about the next steps in their learning journey. Celebrating your child’s achievement is a positive act, leading to opportunities to set realistic goals for future learning. We trust you enjoy this opportunity to applaud your child’s effort and growth as a learner.

Junior School Playground Update

After much waiting and anticipation, our Junior School playground equipment was delivered last week, and the installation began. Our Maintenance Team will be glad to stop hearing the daily question, “Is it coming today?” Over the last few days, it has been exciting to see the progress as the tradesmen trudge through the mud. By the time the students return to school in Term 3, we hope it will be close to being ready to use. Our playgrounds will be accompanied by a gigantic Year 1/2 sandpit and a Gaga Pit set amongst a beautifully landscaped area. We are indeed blessed with what God has provided us, and this recreational play area will be a fabulous addition to our Junior School facilities. It will certainly be worth the wait!

ICAS

As previously communicated, we are offering students in Years 4 to 6 the opportunity to participate in the University of New South Wales ICAS competitions. These competitions are for students across Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. ICAS is an online academic competition that is designed to assess students’ higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee and Digital Technologies. Please note that the ICAS tests shown for selection are at the school’s discretion. Oxley Christian College – Junior School will run Digital Technologies, English, Maths and Science. For further information regarding ordering, please refer to the post on the College App on 7 June. All orders must be placed by Monday, 31 July 2023.

Junior School Production

With the Year 6 auditions complete and the roles determined, the Junior School Production for 2023 is well underway. This year, we will present to you Seussical JR, to be held at LMC on the evenings of Wednesday, 6 and Thursday, 7 September. All Prep – Year 6 students will participate, and we look forward to seeing all students shine on stage. Please put these dates in your diary today and look out for further information about ticket sales and costume requirements in Term 3.

Throughout the holiday period, families are on the move, whether that be day trips here and there or heading off on longer distances. Travel inevitably involves finding out where to go and following directions, whether that be the voice of Karen on Google Maps, your partner or even the knowledgeable and always so helpful backseat driver. In our Staff Devotions this morning, we were encouraged to remember to listen to God’s voice and the direction He gives us. As you head off into these three weeks, I wish you safe travels and leave you with this verse from Isaiah as a reminder to stay tuned to God’s voice and listen to His guidance in your life. Happy Holidays!

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
