Principal's News
Welcome back to Term Three. I hope everyone had a great break.
Extra Curricular Activities
At Malvern Primary School we are committed to developing the whole child. To us this means we provide a range of learning experiences that assist in the development of students’ social, emotional, physical and academic skills. The extra-curricular programs are a great way of supporting the whole child. Some of the extra-curricular activities offered to our students include: camps, House swimming, athletic and cross country sports, interschool sports, choir, Year 4 Instrumental Music program, Environment Club, Chess Club, IT Club, Netball Club, Prime News, Energy Breakthrough (new this year), 100km Club, Chinese Cultural Day, Interschool Ski Competition, excursions and incursions related to the curriculum, Year 6 Graduation events and a range of after school activities run by outside providers (instrumental music lessons, soccer, Mandarin, robotics, writing, chess).
Some of the extra-curricular activities could not be offered without the support of parents; offering their time to assist in supervising, offering their special expertise and encouraging the students. We greatly appreciate the partnership we enjoy with our parents.
A number of the Clubs are initiated and run by our students, with the support of teachers. We encourage students to keep coming up with ideas so we can support them to lead activities for their peers.
Malvern Primary School Camp Program
As mentioned above, an important inclusion in our extra-curricular program are our school camps. The students at Malvern Primary School are fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in a number of camp activities through Years 4, 5 and 6.
What are the benefits of a Camp Program? Camps provide a number of benefits to our students as they participate in new and often challenging experiences; they develop social skills, resilience, independence, an ability to work in teams, leadership skills, are encouraged to participate in physical activity and provide experiences connected to the curriculum (eg: history, cultural studies, environmental studies, global citizenship).
2023 camps are as follows:
Year 4 students attend a three day camp to Arrabri Lodge, Warburton (Term Four).
Year 5 students attend a three day camp to Grantville (Term One) and an overnight trip to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat (Term Four)
Year 6 students attend a five day camp to Coolamatong, Paynesville (Term One) and a three day Ski Camp, Mount Buller (Term Three). This year for the first time, a group of Year 6 students will also have the opportunity to travel to Alice Springs to visit an indigenous school, Yiparinya.
Yiparinya
As mentioned above, this year we will be beginning our relationship with Yiparinya, an indigenous school in Alice Springs. During their visit our students will learn in the classrooms with their students, engage in cultural activities and enjoy visiting several tourist attractions.
Energy Breakthrough - Human Powered Vehicles
This year for the first time we have entered a team of Year 5 and 6 students in the Energy Breakthrough held in Marryborough each year.
'The Energy Breakthrough provides opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle, a machine or innovation in technology that will represent an ‘energy breakthrough’.'
All teams must compete across three areas of assessment:
- Design and Construction,
- Display and Presentation and
- Trials.
Our students have been busy training for the event as it requires the team to race their vehicle for 14 hours. For more information on the event please visit -

Sister School
Our Sister School exchange visits have not yet recommenced since COVID, however we are hopeful that this trip will be included in our program again in the future.
Thank You
The camping program cannot happen without the strong support of staff and parents, giving up their time to accompany and support our students in these amazing experiences.
The camp staff at each of our venues are amazing, they provide great food and support to staff and students as they rotate through more specialised activities. We thank all of these staff for their hospitality and support.
If you would like more information on any of these extra curricular activities, please see your child's classroom teacher.
