Student Voice, Agency, and Leadership at Wheelers Hill Secondary College

Creating Futures Together

It's undeniable that student voice, agency, and leadership are integral parts of the Wheelers Hill Secondary College ethos. We believe in giving students the power and platform to express themselves, make decisions, and contribute to the school community, and these values are the heart of our recent activities.

Our student-led initiatives span a diverse range of activities, from talent shows to fundraisers, to assemblies. Each event was spearheaded by students who took on leadership roles, showing their commitment to their peers and their ability to bring impactful ideas to life.

But it's not just about the leadership roles. By giving students the chance to participate, we're empowering each one of them to use their voice and their talents. Whether they were performing on stage, engaging in friendly competition, or shaving their heads for a cause, each student had a chance to stand up and be heard.

The school is dedicated to supporting these initiatives, and we're excited to see what our students will come up with next.

A Talent Showcase for the Ages: Year 7 Talent Show

On a day filled with extraordinary talents and an appreciative audience, the Year 10 Peer Support and Leadership Class hosted a talent show for our Year 7 students that showcased the incredible abilities within our student body. Joint winners Dakota Pedron and Jayda Joyce mesmerised us with their stunning vocal performances, while Milan Stevanovic's captivating clarinet performance had us tapping our feet.

The excitement was palpable as each act took the stage, bravely sharin

g their skills and passion. The event also served as an example of peer support and leadership, as our Year 10 students flawlessly organised and hosted the show, managing every detail from planning to execution.

This event highlighted the depth of talent at Wheelers Hill and the power of students supporting and celebrating each other. Congratulations once again to Dakota, Jayda, and Milan for their standout performances!

World’s Greatest Shave at Wheelers Hill: A Fundraiser to Remember

The spirit of giving was alive and well at Wheelers Hill Secondary College during the World's Greatest Shave. Over the course of a week, the Student Representative Council (SRC) organised fundraising and awareness activities for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Our students and teachers came together for a series of dodgeball tournaments, igniting friendly competition while raising funds for a great cause. Then, on Friday, 2nd June, our school community gathered to witness a unique show of support and solidarity: hair colouring, arm waxing, and head shaving. Dylan, who had been growing his hair out for quite some time, Bailey, and Josiah all bravely shaved their heads, while Mr Gill's beard also became a casualty in the noble cause.

Capping off the event was a free-dress day, where students were encouraged to express themselves while supporting the fundraiser. The event was a success, raising a total of $833 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Congratulations to the SRC and to everyone who participated!

A First for Wheelers Hill: Student-Led Assembly

Our students took the reins at Wheelers Hill Secondary College on Wednesday, 31st June for a student-led assembly. The day was filled with vibrant discussions, a celebration of our recent successes, and even a friendly game for house points.

Student leaders took to the stage to share their initiatives, inviting their peers to get involved and be a part of the ongoing development of our school community. We also took the time to celebrate recent achievements within our school.

As for the competition for house points, it was Scott House that emerged victorious, thanks to their collective achievements in swimming, athletics, and embodying the college values. This has placed them in the lead now, setting a high standard for the other houses to follow.

The positive feedback received from both teachers and students about this student-led initiative was overwhelming, a testament to the potential of our students' leadership. We look forward to more student-led assemblies in the future, and we can't wait to see what our student leaders come up with next.
