Student Library Book Requests

Students are encouraged to request books for the EDSC Library collection through our Book Orders program.

If the Library doesn’t have a book that a student would like to read, we will buy it for the Library, as long as the book is available, is not too expensive, and is appropriate for our collection.

Our Book Orders program ensures that our Library collection is responsive to students’ reading needs and preferences.

To order a book, students just need to fill out the simple ‘Order a Library Book’ form on our Library website

The Library places book orders once a month, and will email the requesting student when the new book arrives so that they can be the first person to borrow it.

We have a display in the Library of some of the great books that students ordered for the Library last year.  We look forward to receiving more book orders this year!

Library Ambassador applications are now open

The Library is seeking student Ambassadors from all year levels who want to make the EDSC Library a great place to be.

Library Ambassadors are student representatives in their library: helping to maintain the library collection, writing book reviews, promoting the Library in the school community, and other creative and general tasks. Ambassadors will build new skills, get work experience, and meet other students.

Library Ambassadors will be assigned a fortnightly lunchtime Library shift on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays. Students should only apply if they are available during one of these lunchtimes.

Applications opened today (Friday 25 February). To sign up, students can fill out the application form (available on the Library website or from the Library) and hand it to a Librarian. There are limited spots, places will be given in the order of application, so students should make sure to get their form in early! Extra applicants will be placed on our Library Ambassadors waiting list.

For more information, please visit or email the Library.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is off to an amazing start at EDSC, with students reading nearly 500 books already.

Nine students have already read the 15 books needed to attend our end-of-year celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier – congratulations to Ethan K of 7C, Mazen H of 7D, Caitlin V of 7E, Aiden K of 7I, Arshia K of 7I, Jayden L of 7K, Ellie W of 7L, Monica L of 8G, and Chloe W of 8G.

Congratulations also to Hamzah A of 7L who has won a canteen voucher in our first fortnightly random draw, just by entering his books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage

This year, we are counting all the books Year 7 to 10 students (and school staff!) read from January 31 to September 2.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.

All details and our leaderboard are on our new VPRC webpage
