Reflections from Year 2

A visit from the Vet

Yesterday I was so excited because MY vet came into the classroom!

A vet is a person that looks after animals. The animals he mostly sees are dogs, cats and chickens. Surprisingly a sheep came into the clinic the other day. Sadly he has to put some animals down. Sometimes the animals pass away.

Gerard loves looking after animals. I wonder what it is like to be a vet. I think it would be fun. I would like to be a vet.

A Surprise Visitor.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when Ged the vet walked through the door at school.

A vet helps animals that have colds and diseases. The animals he mostly sees are dogs, cats and chickens.

Sadly he has to put down some pets because they are too sick and he doesn’t have the tools. However, sometimes he cries. Gerard’s favourite thing is seeing the animals happy.

Our Excursion to Healesville Sanctuary

I sprang out of bed shouting with excitement. “Today is finally the day. Hooray!”

Beep! Beep! We were on the big bus and on our way. We finally arrived at our destination after a long bus ride. First of all we saw the adorable, cuddly koalas. But they didn’t do much.

The next thing that caught my eye were the emus, they were really really funny! They kept sticking their big, black beaks and pecking the plants on the other side. We went to see the Birds of Prey next. It was so much fun! The birds kept flying over my head and doing all sorts of crazy stuff.

Did you know that with just a sniff of eucalyptus, a koala can tell which chemical it has in it I wonder what dingoes eat?

Bully Zero

I was so excited as I walked to the hall with my class because we were going to learn how to deal with being bullied. Layla was our guest speaker.

Surprisingly, it is not bullying if you are only mean to someone once . If you hurt someone over and over again then it is bullying!  Layla told us about the four types of bullying. These are: online bullying (cyber), screaming and name calling (verbal), excluding someone from a game and actually physically hurting someone.

We played a game of Simon Says but it was different to the way we usually play. Layla 0showed us that everyone is different. Someone may not like the same things as you. I think that you shouldn’t get bullied for being who you are. I wonder what the world would be like if there was no bullying.

HEAVLESVILLE SANCTUARY

I don’t know what I was more excited about or what I was most looking forward to…..the bus trip, the animals or the trip back to school?

We left school early and we got our bags and we lined up at the door.

We hopped on the bus and we drove away and then we arrived!!! We were at Healesville Sanctuary!!!!!

We got off the bus and we sorted out our groups, I was in Kiara’s mum’s group. We had ice-cream and then we saw a big fish in a huge tank. It was following my finger.

My favourite animal was the Bilby and I saw a mouse in the cage, it was so cute. I also loved seeing the echidna.

My favourite part of the day was the amazing ‘Spirit of the Sky’ bird show.

GUEST SPEAKERS IN YEAR 2

GERARD - THE VET

We were lucky to have a visit from Gerard Moore, he is a vet.

A vet is an animal doctor. The animals he mostly sees are dogs, cats and chickens.

Surprisingly, he once had to see a sheep.

Sadly he sometimes has to put animals down.

Sometimes he has to bring animals home with him.

However, Gerards favourite animals are healthy animals.

I think it would be wonderful to be a vet.

 CONSTABLE SHAUN BERNE

We were lucky to have Constable Shaun Berne, the policeman, as a guest speaker in our class.

A policeman’s job is to keep people incredibly safe and help people who are in danger.

He said the part that he enjoys most about his job is having FREE McDONALDS!!!!!! He also likes helping people.

He told us all about handcuffs, guns, spray and uniforms that police officers have to wear.

I wonder how tough it is to be a police officer?

STOMP!

The students have been loving the opportunity to dance up a storm in their Thursday STOMP classes. They will have one more class this term, before spending a few weeks practising with their class teachers. The Grand finale will come on the first Thursday back after the holidays, with one final lesson before the big performance that evening (more details to follow).
