Student Work

Year 9F and 9G – HUMANITIES
This term, Year 9 students have worked hard to consolidate and extend their development of the Humanities Processes. This has included:
- BOLTSS: Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale, Source.
- SPICESS: Spaces, Place, Interconnection, Change, Environment.
- SWOT: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threat’s.
Following on from this introduction unit, we have learned about the role of government, citizenship, people power, advocacy and current issues in Australia. This has tied in beautifully with the Staughton College anti-bullying campaign and poster competition.
I am proud of my students in 9F and 9G who have put a lot of effort into their posters, developed their knowledge and understandings and most importantly have demonstrated the Staughton College values (learning, effort, respect, care, connection).

Year 8 Math - Number Lines
Students in Year 8 Math this week have began looking at decimals. One of the activities was to order decimals using a number line. Students had to work cooperatively and justify their results.
It was great to see students engaging with hand-on activities and having robust discussions about Math.
VCAL Intermediate Work Related Skills Groups 1, 2, 3
The first half of the term has seen our students working hard to interpret and develop a working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety principles and practices. We have looked at the various OHS roles, duties and responsibilities of employers, employees, visitors and volunteers in a selected work environment. We have also learned about the powers of Health and Safety representatives in a workplace, WorkSafe Victoria and the importance of risk management, measures in the hierarchy of control and what effective consultation about health and safety matters between an employer and employees might look like.
As part of practical learning outcomes, students have undertaken a school wide safety audit which resulted in group discussions in identifying ways to overcome issues. The important take away for students has been helping them understand their OHS rights and obligations in a workplace, dignity and discrimination laws.
The second half of the term is focused on helping our students build cover letters and resumes. We want our students to make a good impression to potential employers and to highlight their talents, skills and selling points. Each student is building a portfolio for our End of Year showcase. Portfolios are a great way to demonstrate the competencies you would list on a resume or talk about in an interview — they allow you to show and not just tell.
