NEW CONCERT DATE

Music Notes

The Autumn Ensembles Concert has that was to have transpired last Monday evening is rescheduled for the evening of Friday 29 April. This concert aims to celebrate our progress within ensembles so far this year as a kind of musical snapshot. It should be acknowledged that every ensemble has not had every student attend every rehearsal (for a whole range of reasons), so this changeability has hampered some of the expected musical development. Nonetheless, we are very proud of what has been achieved, and I know the students are motivated and very much looking forward to presenting their repertoire to an audience. Tickets that were purchased for the original date have been transferred to the new date. Further tickets are still available by visiting www.trybooking.com/BYFFN.

Parents and students are reminded that in most cases the ensemble parts and reference recordings are available on the ensemble Firefly pages. This is aimed at encouraging home practice to become familiar with the notes so that in the actual ensemble rehearsals we can work on the many other musical attributes such as balance, dynamics, articulation, togetherness, variations in tempo and other interpretation decisions. As with any pursuit, the amount of time invested at home contributes significantly to both the individual and group’s musical progress. Please make good use of the repertoire support materials that have been provided.

Next term, after the House Performing Arts Competition, there will be a series of solo and chamber recitals to be held in the Orchestral room in the Music Centre. Students are invited to register their intention to perform in the relevant concerts, and we encourage parents and friends to come and support their performances. Amongst the events is a Concerto Auditions concert which aims to not only provide a valuable performance outlet for our more advanced students, but also for one student to be awarded the opportunity to perform with the Senior Symphony Orchestra as a soloist at our major Term 3 Concert. If you are interested in presenting at any of the concerts listed below, please send an email to dmowat@huntingtower.vic.edu.au.  In many instances Huntingtower-based music teachers will nominate students to perform at these concerts anyway!
