From the Principal

Term 3

With an extension of the state's lockdown and the continued closure of schools I want to take a moment to thank every parent, guardian, elder brother or sister, for the amazing support and encouragement you have given to your child/ren, our students, to keep going and never giving up.   We have all appreciated your support, we couldn't have done this remote teaching without you.  In our newsletter this week we are celebrating all of the work students have been completing, well done everyone!

Grade 2 Dragon Stories

During Book Week the Grade 2 students wrote stories about dragons. They planned information reports about dragons, describing the mythical creatures of their imagination in detail. Guided by the easy to follow instructions of the artist on Kids Art Hub on YouTube, the students illustrated dragons. We hope that you enjoy seeing some of their amazing work.

Foundation - We're Going on a Bear Hunt

This week the Foundation students have been very creative and adventurous in making their own treasure maps.  After listening to the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ the students were asked to make a map that represented all the different settings the characters couldn’t go ‘Over’, couldn’t go ‘Under’, but could go ‘Through’.

The students created these maps in diverse formats, some on paper and some online, some even made binoculars to help them locate the bear. Within this fun and creative task, the students were encouraged to work on their colouring skills and pencil grip, their hand-eye coordination when using scissors, even experimenting with new resources (different types of paper, tape, and cotton etc.).

Hopefully when the students go on a Bear Hunt they remember their binoculars, their map and maybe a change of clothes, with the amount of thick, oozy mud and swirling, whirling snowstorm they have to go through!

It has been fantastic seeing the students get involved in their weekly Webex meetings with their teacher. It has been wonderful to see their beaming smiles, ready to share something interesting to their class mates. One activity which was a big hit was going on a treasure hunt around their house. Students had to locate something that was a specific colour or starting with a specific focused sound like /sh/ or /ch/.

Book Week

Last week everyone joined in the fun of our Book Week activities.  Listening to stories online, reading to favourite people, toys and in favourite places.  At our Friday assembly we had some unusual guests - Hermoine Granger, pirates, Ariel, Elsa, Spiderman, witches, Harry Potter, the Near Sheep, just to name a few.  We had a great week, we hope you did too.

2021 NAPLAN

This week the Grade 3 & Grade 5 NAPLAN results have been published.  As the state of Victoria celebrates good results, despite the lockdown periods last year, we at Mullum Primary School are celebrating the continued success of our students in literacy and numeracy.  Student Reports are being mailed out today and should be in your hands soon.

House Rules Competition

Well what an amazing array of 'home improvement' projects were undertaken last week. Gardening, car washing, bedroom tidying, dishwashers emptied, windows washed, the list was endless and we have now seen evidence of some very tidy houses.  We hope you all enjoyed the competition and congratulations to the following students who won $50 Eastland vouchers:  Jai (FG), Estelle (1SK), Noah (4HS) and Lenny (5/6B).  Here are a few snaps of the week:

Mullum's Marvellous Mystery - Thursday 16 September 7pm.

A dedicated team of staff, and Parent's Association, have planned a fundraising event online to close out Term 3.  Next week through Compass you will receive more information about how to join this event as a family and solve all the mysteries together. The cost will be $20 per family which will be put towards buying new sports equipment for use at recess and lunchtime when we are back onsite.
