From the Principal

As a challenging term for our community draws to a close, I want to thank staff for their tremendous efforts in keeping our students engaged in their learning. Staff have continued to run activities for students including Wear it Purple Day, cyberbullying incursions and chess competitions.

My appreciation goes out to families for the support of their children, often under very difficult circumstances. The whole GEC community have pulled together to do the best for our students and have lived up to our newly created values.

Growth and striving – we grow and aspire to learn by innovating and collaborating together.

Equity and integrity – we all have access to a broad range of opportunities that are inclusive of our diverse community.

Care and respect – we care for each other, we act respectfully and support each other in doing our best.

The interview process to employ an architect for our building works has recently concluded. The building works will occur in order to upgrade and modernise some of our buildings and make space for another 250 students. The firm are ARM architects. They will begin consultation with our community in term 4 and the aim is to have the project completed sometime in 2023.

We are very proud of NAPLAN results which were released a few weeks ago. We continue to perform well above the state in all areas and the number of students we have in the top two bands compares very well with the secondary schools in our area. NAPLAN results are being sent to Year 7 and Year 9 families. We will be ‘digging deeper’ into some analysis of these results to see where we can continue to improve.

We recently ran two Q&A sessions for parents about GEC’s response to lockdown. These can be found on XUNO under the ‘News’ section.
