As part of parent wellbeing we are looking to develop a group to support parents in building resiliency, increasing community connection, and creating space to adjust mind shifts to increase capacity and wellbeing.

This group will work with what is relevant to your needs. The information I receive through your feedback will assist us in the decision making process to make it relevant for your needs.

TIPS FOR MANAGING THE DAY  AT HOME

MAINTAIN STRUCTURE

Have a regular routine at home. When children have  structure they feel secure and know what is coming next. The basic structure of the day at your place could be as follows: 9-9:30 am: arrive and free play

9:30 am: snack then free play

10:15 am: group then free play

11:15 am: lunch then free play

12pm: activity stations

1pm: nap/quiet time

2pm: activity stations (for children who don’t nap) 3pm: snack

As is done at school it is important that children (and parents) have lots of time for free play as well as downtime! The times when the children would usually be doing group activities is where you could do some work on their goals (if you wish!) – Keeping a routine will hopefully ease your child’s transition back to school.

GO-TO ACTIVITIES

Keep a stash of your child’s favourite activities hidden  for when they are upset or bored or when you need  some down-time.

FRESH AIR AND SUNLIGHT

Ensure that the day (like the day in the playroom)  includes lots of outside play time to make everyone in  the family feel less cooped-up.

FAMILY EXERCISE TIME

Keep everyone moving and burn energy by going on a  walk, dancing together, doing a yoga video or playing  a game of chasey.

MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS

Use zoom, facebook, skype and other platforms to  communicate with people you usually see during the  week. It is important to maintain social connectedness  during this time.

DOWN TIME

At the start of the day write up a schedule and  schedule in some downtime for each member of your  family. This is especially important for the adults in the  family. Mental health is important during stressful times  and each member of the family deserves some time to  retreat. Please see the following pages for some  relaxation ideas for parents…
