From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

I am extremely proud of our Queen of Peace community. Resilience, understanding, patience, selflessness, support and compassion are some of the words that come to mind when thinking of the reactions I have experienced to the frustration of our Remote Learning situation we find ourselves in.

I was extremely pleased to read on Thursday of  the excellent results that Victorian school achieved in this year's NAPLAN. These achievements are an absolute credit to the expertise of our teachers and you, our parents, who have continued to support and guide your children over these times. These results give us all hope. Hope that we are up to the challenges of these times. Hope that our children continue to learn and grow. Hope that our children are not being left behind because we care.

Victorian students top NAPLAN results despite months of remote learning

Victorian primary school students achieved the best NAPLAN results in the country this year, despite spending more than 120 days learning from home since the pandemic started.

Australian students’ literacy and numeracy skills did not suffer because of last year’s lockdowns, the annual test shows.

Victorian schools were closed for much of last year but improved on 2019’s results in year 3 and 5 reading and year 7 writing. The 2020 NAPLAN tests were cancelled due to COVID-19 lockdowns.

We will be sending out the individual results of Year 3 and 5 students once we receive them in a few weeks' time.

I recently read a letter that a principal in Sydney sent to their community. I wish I had written it because it sums up exactly how we at Queen of Peace feel. It is also a timely reminder of the importance of our well being  and is very timely  in light of the excellent NAPLAN news. I hope you get some comfort by reading it.
