Live Student Leadership Q&A

On Wednesday 1 September, the college community tuned into the 2022 Senior Student Leadership Live Q&A from the comforts of home.  This gave our school community the opportunity to get to know their future leaders and make an informed vote.  During Period 1, we got to meet and listen to our College Captain, S.R.C. President & Vice-President candidates.

They were asked a series of questions from our moderators and school community to get to better know who they are, the values they each hold and what they will bring forward to the role.  In Period 2, we broke off into our houses and tuned into the Live Q&A for our house captain candidates.  They were taken through a series of questions from both our moderators and college community to get to know who they are, what they will do to uphold their house and what they will do to ensure that student voices continue to be heard.  The importance of student leadership is to work together to explore new ideas and initiatives to ensure that student voices continue to be heard.

On 1 September, South Oakleigh College held the Round 1 Leadership Q&A via Teams.  This round included college captains, SRC president/vice president, and house captains.  Everyone who applied has great potential to become a great leader, and I'm sure that the best candidates will be chosen for the roles.  I encourage others to apply for rounds 2 & 3, which will be open later in terms 3 & 4.

South Oakleigh College's Round 1 Leadership Q&A debates took place on Wednesday 1 September.  Many students applied for the roles of College captains, SRC president/Vice president and House captains.  Due to the circumstances, the Round 1 Leadership Q&A debates were held online on Microsoft Teams.  As both students and staff watched on their screens, candidates all had the opportunity to convince the school community of their multiple values while answering students' questions.  Although campaigning online wasn't ideal, regardless of the final results, all the candidates presented themselves really well showing great potentiality to be elected to represent South Oakleigh College.

The Live Student Leadership Q & A debate was an amazing opportunity for all candidates applying for a future leadership position in 2022. All the fantastic candidates delivered their powerful speeches and developed a connection with their fellow peers; ensuring their message of leadership, that they will continue to strive for the best in our school community for the next year, came across clearly.  The current SOC College Captains, Principal’s Team, students and teachers provided the candidates applying with insightful questions and inquiries into their vision, the values and attributes required in striving to be a positive leader and continue to achieve future success for our South Oakleigh College community.

Last week, although incredibly nervous, I was extremely thankful for both the opportunity to apply for the positions of College Captain and S.R.C. President as well as reconnect as a school community.  In challenging times, it’s more important than ever for all of us to stay connected despite the physical distance and I hope that this was a reminder of the resilience and teamwork portrayed by each individual associated with the school.

During my preparation for the Q & A Session, I reflected on both my individual and the school’s growth, providing clarity for who I am and what I would like to achieve if provided with the honour and responsibility of either position.  The progress that the College has made was even more apparent during the session with many students and staff becoming involved in asking questions: whereas, last year when provided with this opportunity, very few actually did.  From this I can note that the physical distance that keeps us apart, perhaps has brought us closer with respect for each other.

So, I would like to encourage each of us to be proud of how we’ve been handling the uncertainty of each lockdown.  Celebrate your strength, but also be willing to reach out and accept support.

2022 College Captains

On Wednesday 1 September, the whole school community came together for the Student Leadership Elections.  The positions open for nomination were College Captain, S.R.C. Co-Presidents, and House Captains.  All students and staff watched a live Q & A panel and asked questions so voters could get to know their candidates and make an informed vote.

We'd like to thank our students and staff who actively listened and asked questions for our candidates to answer.  We also really appreciate our current Student Leadership Team who were involved in moderating the panels and supporting the sessions behind the scenes.

On behalf of the Electoral Committee, we are proud to introduce the following students who have been elected into their respective positions for 2022:

Hello everyone, this is Maple and Kyriakos, and we are your College Captains for 2022.  We have both been students at this college since Year 7 and are excited to have been given this opportunity to be able to represent the school.  We're both dedicated, reliable and comfortable working in different environments, such as within a team or individually, and plan to use these qualities to contribute to the continued growth of the school.  As School Leaders, we will continue to promote and encourage the demonstration of our key school values, such as respect and teamwork.  In 2022, we look forward to working with staff and students to help improve our school, especially after the effect the pandemic has had on our community.  We promise to encourage involvement within the school, working towards building an engaging school community.  Feel free to approach or message either of us regarding any questions or concerns you may have.

2022 College Captains

Hello everyone,

We are both honoured to be your 2022 S.R.C Co-Presidents and are looking forward to supporting the College as we collaborate with students, staff and the principal team.  Throughout our years at South Oakleigh College, we have been able to experience the College grow and develop into the amazing community we are today.  In our role next year, we aim to increase student voice through suggestion boxes and group sessions.  Listening, and clarifying student issues by advocating on their behalf, will enable events, clubs and opportunities to be run according to their interests.  We desire to serve a purpose for the wellbeing and success of all our fellow students.  Please feel free to come up to either of us with any questions, concerns or feedback!
