Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools - Creative Arts Exhibition

I was really pleased to be able to attend the Catholic Schools Creative Arts Exhibition

held in East Melbourne last week. I was equally proud to view the artworks selected for display by the four students from St.James. These pieces of art were not prize winning, but they were of an equally high standard. It is also good to hear that some of our school families also visited the Exhibition.

The exhibition is open to both primary and secondary students from every school in the

Archdiocese of Melbourne. Entries include drawings, paintings, sculpture, textiles, multimedia, photography and film and are of an exceptionally high standard. A large number of schools take up the invitation to submit work for entry but of course not all works are selected for display. Also schools are limited to submit the work of just five students. It was exciting to have the art pieces created by Lachlan L, Jia H, Camille S and Kayden Y displayed so beautifully and professionally.

I am including some of the photos that I took last Thursday evening for you to appreciate.

I am going to put these beautiful artworks on display together in the Community Centre this week so that you are able to view them. I know that you will be impressed by the ability of these talented students.

SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

Gardening Guru’s are back!

The gardening team is back in full swing and busy potting up the Woolworths promotion seeds and making plenty of  mini-seed pots out of toilet roll cores.

On Friday, we prepared  55 pots and look forward to watching them grow in the new greenhouse. Already in the greenhouse we have cuttings of hydrangeas, camellia’s, carpet roses, pittosporums, and choisya that the students are looking after.

We are still looking for kind donations of any gum boots that you no longer have any use for. We have big plans for them!

Physical Education

We have had a big term and a HUGE two weeks in PE and sport!  It has been so great seeing all of our students getting active this term.  Whether it be during our PE sessions, participating in Skipping Club or practising skills learnt in PE lessons at lunch time in preparation for our Gala Days or to simply have fun with friends.

On Monday the 15th of March and Tuesday 23rd of March the year 4 and 5 / 6 students participated in their Interschool Sport Gala Days.  This is where the students have the opportunity to play a selected number of sports against different schools in the area.  These took place at Elgar Park in Box Hill North and the Nunawading Tennis Club. Our Grade 4 students competed in Rounders, Tennis (Hot Shots) and Newcombe Ball (which is a version of volleyball) and the Grade 5 /6 students participated in Softball, Newcombe, Volleyball and Tennis (Hot Shots).

It was so great to see each and every student excited to be out there playing sport after so much was cancelled for them in 2020.  The students were respectful, played fairly and simply had fun! We were also very lucky to come home with some wins across all year levels and a few flags from the 5 / 6 Gala Day which will be displayed in the Community Centre foyer.

I would like to thank all of the students for participating in PE and sport this term! It has been so great getting to know everyone and sharing my passion for movement with them.

Have a happy and safe Easter everyone!

Stay safe, Stay active
