SIDE Camp

The Yr 11/12 students went on SIDE Camp from Monday-Wednesday in Week 6 with Caitlin Hogan (SIDE Supervisor) and Mr Baltovich. The aim of this study camp is for students to meet teachers face-to-face and have in-person tutoring at the SIDE Leederville campus. Feedback from the students is that this was really beneficial for their studies. Whilst in Perth we visited the Cottesloe Sculptures by the Sea, went Ten Pin bowling, and were treated to eating out at a delicious pasta restaurant, San Churro’s and a Leederville Café for our final morning breakfast. Thank you to the MDHS and SIDE Leederville staff for a great camp!

Woodwork Elective News

This Semester we have a group of proactive students who are producing some cool projects. We started the Semester building a utility box, which involved using the router, cutting rebates, using the Tennon Saw and chisel, gluing and nailing the sides and base together. To finish; sanding, applying polyurethane, and finally heating up the acrylic lids and bending the tips using the heat guns.

Our second project was building a Tower of Hanoi where we trenched the pine block in two places and inlaid either Jarrah or Marri. The trenching was completed by hand using the Tennon Saw and chisel and requires a lot of patience on the student's behalf.

Murray has brought across a lot of his skills from last year and also from home and worked independently on completing an end table, to a high standard.

It has been very satisfying to see how the student's skills have developed in the past six weeks and I congratulate them on their fantastic attitudes and projects.
