Student Leadership

Leadership Installation Service
The Leadership Induction Service was an opportunity for the student leaders of the College to be officially presented to their peers and members of the Endeavour College community. It was deemed to be a successful service where students took their step forward as servants and contributors and received their badges. Year 12 Extra-Curricular Leaders, Senior and Middle Village Leaders and SAT members were also installed. Jake Whitehead, College Captain 2016, inspired us with a speech about what it means to be a leader. He touched on many different aspects of leadership, but an analogy that well-summarised his speech was this: “This school community is like a car. Every single individual in this room has a unique set of qualities and traits which are all equally important assets”.
So, as we welcomed and blessed the newly appointed student leaders, we were all also challenged and reminded to show leadership in our own way, as each person is uniquely and equally important, with or without a badge.

SAT Planning Day
On Friday February 19, the Student Action Team conducted its annual Planning Day. The day consisted of the SAT members participating in a variety of activities and presentations. The SAT members started with a getting to know you activity which broke the ice and ensured everyone felt comfortable and knew a little more about each other. Afterwards, a presentation was held on public speaking which was presented by Mr Pearse. This presentation gave the SAT members tips and knowledge on how to be confident speakers. Later, the SAT members broke into their individual portfolios where they participated in and rotated through a variety of activities which taught them about teamwork, goal setting and communication. At the end of the day everyone came together and worked in their portfolios to brainstorm ideas for the year ahead. Overall, the planning day was a success. Members gained knowledge and skills, brainstormed ideas and set ambitious goals. We are excited to work collaboratively and communicate effectively as we fulfill the important role as the student voice for the College.
The SAT members are now ready to lead in 2021.

Middle Years Leadership Workshop
On Monday of Week 4, we had an all day workshop to talk about our ideas for Middle Years Village time, the outcomes we want from it and the five objectives we want to achieve in this time, which are:
- Develop faith and values
- Belong to a thriving community,
- Build positive relationships,
- To be empowered and supported
- To play and learn
These objectives are set so that we can have a purpose for what we plan for the Middle Years during Village time. We also discussed what sort of activities we could run that would accomplish one of these objectives.

On the workshop day, we started off with some team-building activities. We thought about what pastoral care at the College really is and explored it through small activities, like choosing adjectives which describe how we want Care Group to feel. This became the basis for how we will plan for each Tuesday Care Group activity, and will help us shape our goals for pastoral focus. Knowing what we were aiming for helped us come up with more ideas on how to get there.
We ran through the Middle Years philosophy of independence, interdependence and collective action, which we also aim to embed in our Tuesday sessions.
After recess, the 2020 Middle Years Leaders came in to help us with our next chunk of brainstorming which involved the Year 7 camp. They provided advice and ideas from their own experiences to help us plan activities for the Year 7s on their first day of camp. After that we started planning activities for our individual Villages. Here we brainstormed what we could do for the Care Group time on Tuesday. Each Village produced one activity sheet. This helped us prepare for our first activity and get used to the format for planning.

On behalf of all the Middle Years Leaders, we definitely believe that this day was beneficial in that we were all able to learn and develop the best qualities of an empowering leader. Working with the 2020 Middle Years Leaders was great because they had the opportunity to give us advice on what to do and what not to do. Planning various activities, from the Year 7 camp to Middle Years Tuesdays, gave all of us a taste of what will be required of us in the future, and our imaginations are running wild. The day was a success! We all really look forward to what 2021 holds for all of us. We look forward to collaborating with our Senior Year Leaders and seeing what successes will come our way.

Year 7 Camp – our contributions
On behalf of the Middle Years leaders, I would definitely say that we were blown away by the amount of enthusiasm and participation shown by the Year 7s when we led them through their Village team building activities on the first day of camp. It was so great to see them all working together and engaging with us. It was a rewarding moment for us as Middle Years Leaders, as we had put much time and effort into creating a good experience for the Year 7s. Plus, it was a great opportunity for the Year 9s, where many lollies and laughs were shared!
