F/1

This week the F/1 students continued to build team work skills in the art room by working on some large drawings in groups. The students drew with oil pastels, coloured pencils, and markers, and included all the colores primarios (primary colours) and all the colores secundarios (secondary colours) in their fabulous drawings of our school grounds! The end results were very colourful and detailed, and in general the students did a great job of cooperating and collaborating.

2/3

The 2/3s were excited to do some drawing in their new Visual Diaries this week! To continue our colour theory studies, the students learnt how to distinguish colores cálidos (warm colours) from colores fríos (cool colours), before doing a drawing using a warm colour palette. Soon, we will start investigating the symbolism of colours, including as a representation of emotions, and how this varies in different cultures. I look forward to seeing what the students come up with in response to our 'Symbolism of Colours' unit of work!

4/5/6

What a week for our 4/5/6s! Those who went on the Canberra trip visited the National Gallery of Australia and saw some amazing artworks and exhibitions there. A highlight was looking at the poster collection which is part of the 'Know my Name' exhibition, showcasing Australian women artists (and beyond!). This has given the students some great ideas for their own posters which they will be making in the coming weeks. The students who stayed in Melbourne this week went on an excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria, where we saw some incredible artworks in the Triennial exhibition! The students were amazed by the sculptures, installations,  photographs, animations, and other artworks that they saw. It was a great day!
