(Physical Education)

Señora Nikki McGar

What a wonderful couple of weeks we have had out on the oval for our Phys Ed sessions. We’ve been lucky with the warm weather! It’s fantastic to see so many students remembering their hats and drinks bottles!

Our prep and year one students have been showing and sharing ways that we can care for members of our class. In phys ed lessons this means making sure our friends have their catching hands ready before we throw them the ball, taking turns and following the rules of the games. After participating in warm up games students have been describing the changes they can feel when they participate in physical activity. We have talked about our hearts beating faster and getting out of breath.

Students have continued to work on their throwing and catching skills. We have concentrated on practising the correct technique for our chest passes, 2 hands on the ball, chicken wings out and pushing from the chest to our partner’s chest. They have also loved throwing the foxtails right up in the air and seeing if they can catch them.

Cricket was the name of the game in our 2/3 lessons. We have started with cricket this term as it seemed to be the most popular when I asked the students what activities they would like to play in phys ed this year! Students worked on their skills, trying batting, fielding and bowling. They have now started applying these into some modified games. They have listened to the rules of the game and students have been supporting each other to follow these. It’s been great to see the students working so well in their teams, deciding who will go into what position. I also had a number of our year 2/3 students join me for ‘Run Club’ this week! It was our first session and students were shown where they would be running for our cross country carnival in term 2.

This week some of our responsible 4/5/6 students have come along to our 2/3 and F/1 lessons to assist with their warm up games and skill development. Our older students have offered advice and encouragement as well as joining in the games with them. Bocce was introduced to our 4/5/6 cohort this term. Students very much enjoyed getting competitive with their friends. We saw a great deal of persistence over the past couple of weeks when learning this new game. Students encouraged each other and shared their tested tips with others to help improve their skills.

Bike Education

Bike education begins in week 7. Students will need to bring their own bike and helmet on their specialist days. If you don't have a bike, please ask friends or family if they have one you could borrow. Sorry no scooters. Bikes will be brought to school on their respective specialist day. Please park them behind C block.

National Ride2School Day on Friday 19th March

We are also excited to be celebrating National Ride2School Day on Friday 19th March 2021. Decorate your mode of transport, be as creative as you like! We encourage all students and their families to leave the car at home and give riding, walking, scooting or skating to school a go. If this is not possible, maybe you could try walking part of the way here. It’s sure to be a fantastic morning and we look forward to seeing you there! Our bike parade will start just after 9am.
