Compass

It was great to see a number of parents and carers attend and participate in the Compass workshops this week.  In the last three weeks, one third of our families have logged in and have been using Compass, which is fantastic; we highly encourage all families to log in.  Compass will be increasingly used as our online communication platform; parents/carers will receive emails and text messages as prompts to log in and read latest news items and to approve unexplained absences of their child at school.  There are many other functions in Compass which we will be introducing this year.  The Compass App is available on iOS and Andriod mobile phones; the App is an easy way to access the parent portal.  If you would like further Compass support please call the front office.

The homework policy that has been outlined through our documentation and at our recent Meet the Teacher Night, states that in addition to set tasks, we will provide a list of recommended e-Leanring activities that can be completed at home.  The Department of Education and Training have now produced their own App, ‘SchoolMate’, which we feel well supports our students learning.

SchoolMate is a free mobile app for school-aged children in Victoria. It breaks down what your child is learning at school in each subject and each year level, and suggests activities and reading that you can do at home to support your child's learning.  The App provides recommended curriculum area specific Apps in each year level to further support learning.  The App is regularly updated to include the latest quality education programs for children in Victoria.

Classroom teachers will also provide set homework tasks each week.  It is optional for children to receive weekly homework.  Please see your child’s teacher to request set tasks.  Primary aged students will be given readers and secondary aged students will be given set online tasks in Mathletics and Spellodrome.

On Monday 6th March there will be a Careers Expo at the Darebin Arts Centre from 3.30 to 7.30pm.  Concord School families are welcome to attend this free event.  The Careers Expo provides an opportunity for you to hear about various post school options, which I know many of our secondary families are starting to think about.
