2017 Year 7 Girls Hockey

On Wednesday 23rd of August I had the pleasure of accompanying the Year 7 Girls to Hawthorn Hockey Centre. The girls, having only played a little Hockey before, were very enthusiastic and responded well to the instruction provided by International players. The morning session included rotating around to four different activity stations where students learnt the fundamentals of passing, ball control, slapping the ball, attacking and tackling skills.

After lunch the girls played three games against Elwood and Albert Park Secondary Colleges. The girls overall result was fantastic, only going down to Albert Park in the Grand Final.  Along the way we had a few stand out performances;

  • Emily Jacobs for her control of the ball
  • Georgina Throssell for her use of space and game play understanding
  • Alyza Warner for her game play understanding and competitiveness
  • Becky Lee-Ack for solid work in defence & she has the scars to prove it!
  • Tillie Steel for her enthusiasm and honesty (‘It hit my foot’J)
  • Amy Malone for the improvement of her skill development throughout the day
  • Taylah Reed for her amazing strength when pushing the ball and team leadership

Although we don’t progress to the next round, I really want to complement the girls on their sportsmanship and I look forward to coaching them again in 2018, after they’ve had a chance to do PASE Hockey again in Year 8

Thanks for a great day girls

Mrs Arneil

P.S. Thanks also to Mr Sanders for walking to a chemist to buy Mouthguards for those who had forgotten theirs!
