Valedictory Celebration Dinner 2017

The annual celebration and recognition of the graduating year 12 class took place on the 23rd of November this year, signalling the end of era for many students and families connected to the Staughton family.

“The Class of 2017” were formally farewelled and sent on the way towards their future with all of the pomp and ceremony normally associated with such occasions. With students, family, and friends at the front and centre of the program of fun, frivolity, and recognition a great night was guaranteed.

Of course the usual contingent of official orators were on hand to impart their wisdom and offer their words of encouragement to the graduating class. As time was tight and, we would rather celebrate than have people talk at us all night. All of the speeches were limited to time and the essential words used.

The speakers included the Principal David Lord, Assistant Principal Head of Senior School Ben Russell; this year we welcomed past School Captain Cassandra Hamill (2012) to address the graduating class. She talked to the students, giving them a short history of her journey beyond Staughton College that has found her completing an Arts degree and studying post grad Law at Melbourne University. The essence of her message being not to give up and take every opportunity that presents itself.

The School Captains of 2017, Emily Steward and Ethan Mc Intosh gave a warm and encouraging address to the cohort which included a reflection of their year and a summation of how, the lessons, learning, and experiences they have received at Staughton College have prepared them for the rest of their lives.

As a specific addendum they also gave thanks to their teachers, thanks to their friends, and importantly thanks to their families for their unwavering support throughout the year

With the official agenda for the evening over, there was time for more socialising, dancing, and finishing the evening on a high with many students assuring me they planned on partying and celebrating the occasion well into the early hours (well beyond my bedtime). As always, the graduation cake was a splendour to behold and taste.

I would like to thank all of our year 12 students and their families for your support and efforts over the years and especially throughout your year 12. Staughton College wishes you well as you move into your future and forge your own pathway to success. Remember, you haven’t come this far to only come this far.

We look forward to seeing you all again on the 15th of December to celebrate your ATAR achievements. Remember - a breakfast event is a great event. Bring in your family! The breakfast starts at 8:00 am.
