National Day of Action Against Bullying

Anti Bullying Day

On Friday 18th of March 2016, Fairhills High School participated in the National Day of Action against Bullying & Violence.  This annual day is Australia's key anti-bullying event for schools, and encourages all students to 'take a stand together' against bullying and violence in schools, the classroom and beyond.  This year more than 2060 schools, with more than 930,000 students across Australia participated by running local events, inviting guest speakers and running classroom lessons.

We ran a casual dress day to coincide with the day to allow students the ability to pledge their support by wearing orange.  The money raised from the casual dress day will be donated to the Leukaemia foundation.

At Fairhills we started the day off by giving out the 'Bullying NO WAY' tip cards to every student in the school.  The cards gave tips on how to deal with bullying in person, online and what to do if you see someone being bullied.  After Period 1 the student leaders held a General Assembly for the whole school to discuss the great success of the Athletics Day on Thursday and for us to talk about why we as a school were participating in this important day.  Our Year 12 Wellbeing Leader, Laura Borgo presented to the student audience on how to address bullying and pleaded with her fellow students to take a stand with her.  It was a great speaech and was talked about for the rest of the day by both students and teachers.  At lunch time, several of our music students put on a concert whilst students pledged their support against bullying by putting their thumbprint on the 'Bullying NO WAY' tree. You can see the artwork hanging in the office hallway outside the VCE office. Throughout the day teachers and students engaged in discussions and activities in class addressing bullying.  Overall it was a successful day and well supported by students and staff.
