Literacy and Numeracy

Welcome Back Parent Helpers!

Our Parent Helper Training is now complete and we look forward to welcoming into classrooms our new helpers, and welcoming back previously trained helpers.  Classroom teachers will advise of times and opportunities to assist.  Please join us whenever you can!

A few reminders as you return:

  • You must have a current Working With Children Check and have completed the St. James Volunteer Process.
  • You must sign in at the Office before making your way to the classroom.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot have toddlers or younger siblings in the classroom when you are rostered to assist.
  • You will be supervising the practising part of the learning and will always work under the direction, and in sight, of a teacher.
  • Encourage children to work quietly.  This is respectful of others who are trying to think and learn.
  • You may not always be working with your own child.

Most importantly:

  • Retain confidentiality.
  • Be non-judgemental.
  • Remember that all children learn at different rates and have different learning needs.
  • Do not mention names of children or teachers with whom you are working in front of your own children or other parents.

And finally:

  • Enjoy your time in the learning space!

We look forward to welcoming you into classrooms
